Here's a promo shot for a Smith UT2003 model I just wrapped up.

hmm.... an army of smiths in ut2k3 would be pretty intimidating, but nothing a single redeemer shot couldn't handle heheheh...

he weighs in at 2679 polys - i couldn't resist dumping a few extra ones in his shoes to get a smoother reflection effect from the 2k3 cube maps.

Other than that, sweet job on the model and the texturing is fantastic. The in game screeshot is really a nice touch.

Question about that wireframe of the face.
Is your poly count from that wireframe or 2000+ after some sort of mesh smooth applied to it?
Or does UT2k engine smooth for you automatically?

and btw.. Smith is not an agent anymore, so... no earpiece :shame:

thanks for the comments.

dmcgrath - i agree, the earpiece is a strong symbol but i thought the absence of it was too. like robioto and Iverson said, this version represents smith free from the collective.

Neil - triangle count is 2000+ as it appears in the wireframe. in max speak that's not the same as the poly count if you're talking about the ngons surrounded by visible edges. each of those can be made up of multiple triangles. ut2k3 renders the model as is, doesn't add any tris to it.

Hammer - don't have a SOF2 version planned, gonna stick with 2k3 for player modeling for the time being.

levitateme - i use the photoshop eyedropper alot to make sure that the hue/value at the edges of each uv segment match up with the ones they need to connect to. i also try to stick the seams in places where they're least visible (inner leg) or where there's a logical break in the model (neck/shirt). a 3d paint program like deep paint 3d comes in handy sometimes for laying out lines that need to pass from one segment to another.

:eek: All we need now is Neo and that'll probably be all we'll ever see on any UT server, especially if it is as stunning as the Smith model.

Excellent job on the face you captured a striking likeness using low poly, something I'd love to be able to do myself.
Great texture, great model, it's people like you that make me work harder when learning 3D Max.

Time for me to start using some low poly tutorials.

i just battled 16 agents smiths in the matrix lobby on godlike setting! oh the fun!

good job tho! another great UT2k3 model on cgtalk!

i'm still convinced the cgtalk ut2k3 players should all meet "in the arena" to do battle! if anyone is intrested my player name is manmadegod and mostly found on a server called mokum x!

HellWolve: i think i downloaded a huge pack of maps from www.unrealtournament2003.com

it may be the same one your on about. the texture is very basic, all green. a large main room, with the 2 door ways at one end. the mega shield is in centre of room.

if u wanted it real bad, i guess i could mail you it!

Nice geometry. I'm digging the lip a lot, I think you captured his personality quite well with that lip overhang.

I also like the creases at the bottom of the pants quite a bit.

You're texture space seems like it might be a bit wasteful, but all in all, it's a wonderful piece and it looks very polished in the game lighting. Good job.

Also any plans on making a tutorial to teach amatuers (like me) on how to make such a good low poly model. Also that texture work is astounding how you managed it is completely beyond me.
