View Full Version : WIP: "Morning Paper"
This image is the most recent post:
This is something I'm doing just for fun and decided to share.
I'm thinking about placing him in a kitchen setting with his coffee cup and donuts.
I'll show the progress as I work in Photoshop at different stages.
I started out with a pencil sketch I scanned in.
Then created a new layer set to multiply in photoshop to trace the sketch to create the line drawing. (took about 15min.)
2nd image I've started to block in the colors on the background layer.(20-30min.)
More to come as I work on it.

ha, this is funny :applause:
one thing tho: his right breast(?) looks kinda weird.. I think the
perspective is a bit off there.
i really wanna see him in the kitchen, keep on posting :)

oh man, this guy is such a lazy@ss stereotype! he doesn't even hold the newpaper, he puts it under the arm, so he can keep his hand in the pocked!
very cool. also like the colors. looks like the 60/70's I'd like to see his woodframe television!
keep showing please!

Good eye. I made those corrections. Thanks.
Kazuya Mochu: I'm glad you get a kick out him.:D
Here is an update.

yay, looks better now
found another thin tho ;)
his right shoulder is much higher then his left one

man, this is very cool
kind of reminds me of thoes Ren&Stinpy closeups. you know? like.. disgusting close ups to the ears, or eyes...
I think you should just add a bit of hair in his belly.
kaktuswasser: His shoulders are a little off. I was trying to give
him a look of a little relaxed and slouched to one side.
But you are right it could use some tweaking to fine tune it.
I've started developing the environment.
Once it is all fleshed out I need to start creating details
that will give the setting more character.

very cool environment.. Those shadows are great! :)

Nice environment, though I think the chair looks a little out of place. Maybe one of those wicker ones with padded base? Would go with the table more...
Here is a small update.

bang ... that just has so much power, the nose, the hairy chest, the hair on his head and the wide open dressinggown. WAAAAHHH just great.
The environement flashes me a 100% to, you may wanna work on that DOF and maybe hang a small picture onto the wall.
You could also make an outdoor environement to, but hey, you can alot when the day is long ;)
Really man, I love it, donīt see many images like that around here to often.
KEEP IT UP

You definately have a style of your own!
My only suggestion is to define the window a little.
Thanks, Kazuya Mochu, Prs-Phil, DogmaD.
I still need to clean it up , define the window a little bit, and
finish placing the items in the scene. I'm getting there.
Just working on it in between projects.
Hopefully I'll have an update soon.

Great character and welcoming environment! The lighting is really nice. Love what you did to the floor. I half expect to see a cat rubbing up against his leg! Does he have a cat?
The only thing that bugs me a little is his hair. I think the fact that it's outlined in the same fashion as his nose or neck is heavy-handed... I think a compromise between what it is now and what the chest hair looks like might improve it.
I agree with Prs-Phil... this is a refreshing change of pace.
Well I think I'm all done.
I added a few more details and cleaned some areas up.
Any final critiques would be appreciated.

Great character and really nice colour and lighting to it.
I think those donuts are a perfect breakfast for this guy! :)
I was about to say that you coud add some curtains or something to fill it out, but I guess he would never bother to put any up at all. Maybe his mother would have fixed it for him... :)

I love the addition of the 1973 calendar... Is it 1973, or did he never take it down, or does he just love the fish picture? It doesn't matter, it's the question that involves us!:)
It looks like you toned the line of the hair down a bit... I think it looks better.
Sorry I didn't see you'd finished this way back when. :applause:

very fresh and new subject here on cg, like it better than all mecha stuff, beautifull colour scheme, woul you in final stages lose all outlines i think it would look very nice done in a painterly way without comic book outlines?

This is a really nice humorous piece.
I know I'm getting into this pretty late to comment, but there's a glitch here just like I make too often. The perspective seems off on the stove's control panel. It looks to me as though the back end falls into the counter-top a bit.
Thanks for the feedback everyone.
