Hello
When im converting Skin to the CMuscle Skin it takes a huge amount of time going through each joint, could that be due to me not understanding the maximum distance setting?

Thanks for any thoughts

Actually the whole Cmuscle skinning process is very slow, its really not very intuitive to paint skin weights on a high-res character, must be something im doing wrong!!

In general the res of the mesh should be whatever level you would normally do Maya skinning with...that is to say, it's a skin like system so they work similarly. I would also not convert the skin, but assuming you are using Maya 2009 set it up to work in the "relative" mode which it should automatically ask you for...that way you can leave your Maya skinning alone, and then just do relative sticky weights or sliding for muscles or bones only on the muscle system.

thanks michael, im actually using maya2008, does that make a difference?

right so i can take my current maya skin, and use it as it is, and ontop use cmuscles sticky bind, thats great, but im just trying it out and i cant seem to paint sticky weights in 'relative' -as i paint the vertices affected are flying off the mesh
Painting sliding/jiggle weights seems to be working great,

Cheers

When you attach the cMuscleSystem it will ask fi you want to set it up for relative or not...you must say yes. you must also take the muscle and make sure they are set for relative mode as well..check the docs...should also be in the menus.

I dont actually get an option to set in relative, i just had a look at maya 2009 muscle and it looks quiet a bit different to the options in maya2008, i know cmuscle was something you developed Michael but are you sure the same options are available on maya2008? i see no option for "relative" in muscle or skin

Yep I see the 'relative skin' option in maya2009, but unfortunately i cannot transfer my scene to it as i have some scripts and plugins that only work in 2008,
So i guess the obvious question is if maya 2008 has this option ?

I don't recall which version Autodesk put in 2008 ext 2... I think it may be that it was the older version...you may need Maya 2009 to do what you want...

Anybody who is struggling with muscles in maya 2008 extension 1 should download extension 2. The muscle system has been streamlined, its so much faster with many new features, iv almost got a full body character with muscles working now, but there is still some odd things i cant figure out, like some vertices popping off for no reason, and also the new controls for the muscles although give you powerfull control they make it highly confusing to work with on screen.

*I have encountered vertice popping as well.
I set up some capsules for elbow deformation and there are some vertices going funny here and there.
