View Full Version : light coming through cracks in intruded cube (room)

Hi,

I made a very simple three-walled room with one window. Cube>select one face>inset to make window> select window face and one wall>intrude to create room with open window and with one wall knocked out. See below.

I have a spot light outside the window which shines into the room.

Problem: Light is coming through cracks in the edges. I've tried every edge and body command but light still comes in. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong? (And as if it weren't obvious, I'm a newbie so please be kind!) :p

Thanks,

Wings3d is not a renderer. The lights don't cast shadows so only the normals are taken into consideration with light.

Jide,

Im using YafRay to render, and thats when I get the light seeping into my room. should have mentioned that!

The picture on the left is wings3d, the right shot is a quick render in Yafray with just one spotlight from the outside coming through the window.

any thought greatly appreciated.

thanks,

takayuki

Oops. Heh, sorry. I didn't pay attention to the right pic and thought it was an illustration :hmm:

I haven't used YafRay so I can't think of anything helpful off the top of my head.

Hopefully someone who knows his YafRay will see this topic

All I can say is that I've recreated your scene and exported it to PovRay and it rendered just fine, the way it should render :)

So, the problem must be with the yafray exporter or with yafray itself.

Mabe it is creating extra geometry or something when converting to yafray.

JP,

thanks for the response! i rebuilt the room in wings and there are no cracks now so it was my fault.

i think when i intruded the walls were too thin...

Isn't this the fault of yafrays bias value. (not the one for the spotlight, but the other one) Try changing that value.
