Hi all,

I have just seen that on the 9th of February a show will be aired on National Geografic channel, that I have made the CGI for last year:

All EIAS. Hope you like it.

I have not found any renders of me yet on that site - and I am NDAs to show anything beforw this was on air. But the "Blimp" model in the flightsimulator is made by me. Its the same that is used in the show.

Hope I can see the show in Canada. We don't get them all...
Nice blimp. I hooked the plane in 1:36...

Hi Jens,

The USS Macon, wow, that's really cool.

Did you get to look at real blue prints, interior designs, etc?

How detailed did the model get?

It's been a long time since I've checked out NG's web site... I'll have to spend some more time there...

Thanks,

Mike

I didn't have original blueprints, they are archived at Goodyear coorperation, no way to get them. So I used every sourcefootage and reference I could find. The editors had collected much stuff about the Airship that I could use together with some Plans of course. I would have been lost with the bueprints anyway, since they made a three view blueprint for over 20,000 of the girder junctions alone. If you look from the outside it looks like a fairly easy shape, but if you start to dig into its construction you realize what a nightmare it is to build somethink like this. There is virtually no identical angle between two part anywhere in the whole thing. Every part is custom made. So I made a skeleton, yes, is accurate enough for the animations but to rebuild the whole thing in 3D is impossible - at least if you do not have the infrastructure of Boeing or something. I can show some renders later, when my NDA ends.

I remember when you were building that. Even then, a great work as WIP.

Yes, I can also remember Jens "screaming" for ideas how to model that "Zeppelin"-model ;-)))
But obviously it was worth it...nice work !
It´s a pity I cant`watch that NG-channel.

By the way, some weeks ago I was watching a documentation about that old Maya-people,
including some nice 3D-animations (No, I´m not talking about Autodesk-Maya-creatures ;-)
Then in the credits the name Jens C. Möller came up...hehehe :applause:

It will also be broacasted in Germany later this year in Arte and ZDF. I'll inform about the dates.

Yes, I do alot archeologic stuff for TV. But these are the smaller jobs, not as "showable" as the Macon.

Jens,

I saw the show last night. Really great work. If you don't mind sharing: how did you do the tearing off the cloth by the tail? Deformers? Simcloth? Flag? :)

Thanks for giving us the heads up about the show. Film quality vfx work.
