You can't render a lightmap with Texporter, it's only for rendering out UV-templates.
If you have Max5 you can use the 'Render to Texture' function to render out a lightmap, or you could download a script called 'Bakersfield' which does the same but is much more stable.
Search on this site for the Bakersfield script:

forgive me, but how i use bakersfield?
I put the .mcr file in my UI/macroscripts folder, and it says that it should show up in my render category, but i can't seeem to find it.
I also tried useing the render to texture thing in max, but how do i make it use the UVW Map i have already given it?
Thanks,
Ashe

To install a macroscript, place it in the ui\macroscripts folder, and either restart max, or use Run Script in the MAXScript menu. This loads it in memory in max so you can use it.
To use your own UVs, when you add Texture Elements, you need to set the Use Channel spinner for each one to the UV channel you want.
