View Full Version : WIP : Diesel Bot
I've started some days ago modelling a robot I've made in 2d some times ago, just for modelling fun, and to work a little bit on mettalic textures and UV unwrap methods.
Here's the original 2D concept :

And here's the beggining of the model :

I think the head was a little to big, I scaled it later.
I changed a bit some curves of the body, to better suit the 3d vision...
I've finished the model yesterday I think, here's the final version :

The render is an HDRI render (finalrender). I just put some basic materials on the model (metal with a little bit of reflexion.).
Started working on the textures, but I'll post'em later.
Feel free to comment.

Cool looking design and model! Reminds me of the battle bots from star wars ep.1&2...I think the arms and legs need some better textures, and i dont see any shadow around his feet, so it looks like he is floating. Maybe put a slight glow coming from his eye (like the sketch shows)....looks good.

I noticed wires on the arms of the concept drawing. They might be a nice addition to the final model as they have a vien quality about them, make the robot feel more alive
Looking great though love the concept
Tks for the replies guys
-otacon : I haven't done the arms ans legs textures yet, I think I will try something like wood maybe. I'll add the glow later to :).
- TheFreak : You're right about the wires : I'm going to add them, for now I'm working on the textures. (tkx)
And here goes a little update. Worked on some part's textures. The torso, head and (wth) -thing upon the legs-
Here's a shot with just 2 lights, to show the bump and reflexions :

and here's the detail of the (wth) part's texture :

Will continue working on it, tanks to all

Nice details! Looks really old and worn down.
Thx otacon :)
Continued working on the Bot. linked the wires and I couldn't resist doing a test animation :
Wires & Cables animation test (Mov - 800 Ko) (http://kureks.free.fr/diesel/cables2.mov)
I did this yesterday, and now it's finished, I'll post the final image on the forum

Wow! Nice model. I really like that you've stuck to the concept.
The wire animation test is very interesting! What app are you using? I've always had difficult in deforming wires with the rest of the mesh.
Anyway, I'll be following this thread.
