View Full Version : viewport naviagation/card question

Right now I have a 9800GTX+ and I have told my IT guy that I think I need a quadro. Right now, once I hit 2.5 million polys my viewport lags heavily. I had told my IT guy that I think I need a better comp. He has suggested the Dell T7400. Now it does run dual Quad cores, but he thinks I will be fine just using a Quadro 4600. Is this correct? I think I need a more higher end card. I always thought the 4600 was really no different than the 9800. MY main concern is viewport navigation.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

Right now my comp specs are

Intel Q9300 2.5 Quad core
8 Gigs of RAM

Thanks so much for any insight

Frankly that's a lot of faces for any card to display smoothly. The Quadro FX 4600 is based on the same GPU as GeForce 8800, so it might perform slower than your current video card as far as the view port frame rate goes. Workstation cards and gaming cards perform similarly in terms of frame rates for a given number of faces, the main differences are features (hardware rendering of particles, AA lines, overlay planes, etc.). Cheers!
