alchoi 06-29-2003, 02:28 AM This was supposed to be a warm-up drawing at work ..
Oh well ...
I saw a girl wearing this get-up downtown on my way in, and I had to draw her outfit ...
By the way .. I've had this running discussion with my girlfriend (she's a character designer as well) ... but you can see someone really cute, and want to draw them, and not be attracted to them, right?
Help me out here ...
Heheheh ...

I'm not very good with shading yet ...
I'm spending the next two years really working on my lighting ... so here's a quick rendering study ...
Spent too many years in "lineart" mode and I'm trying to break out of it ..
Let me know what you think ...
Cheers.

I think its entirely possible to thing something is cute and NOT be attracted to it, Becuase they are diffrent things.

Lolll!!! Sounds like my life, i was chillen on the beach with my girlfriend and her friend this past weekend. Well I was sketching a girl and my girlfriends was all like "why don't you marry her" :scream:
I don't think you can draw someone beautiful/cute without having a tiny bit of attraction. Not to say you'd wanna leave your girl for her, but if she is good looking and you are male, somewhere in the basck of your mind you wanna lil' piece of the pie..
Ps, I like the drawing alot, kinda my style from all those years of Graf. Heheh was she a raver girl? She looks like it ;)

Heheh ... Nogustah ... damn, I better hope my girlfriend don't find this ....
But I think you hit the closest to the truth ... time I dropped the denial ...
I don't think this girl was a raver, but who knows ...
By the way, have you heard of Dedos? He's a buddy of mine who's big in the graffitti world down here in Canada ... he used to dance for the Rascals ...
You can check his work out at ...

We influence each other alot ... him with his hip-hop style, and me with the mishmash of Marvel, Disney, and Anime that tends to infect my work ...
Thanks everyone for your kind feedback ... I may colour this one ... any suggestions?
Al.

Well that explains why my drawing hasn't been getting better, all this time I was drawing messy when I should be drawing rough :D . Eveything is going fine here, still haven't got a 3d job yet but I figure if I keep buging them they will have to give me one sometime.
Also I took the liberty of throwing some colors on your drawing. Maby they will give you some ideas?

Hey guys you would seem to know...i'm trying to find a way to sketch my doodles directly into Photoshop, then ink them directly in Photoshop, and color them there - all using my tablet all in one app. Point 1 and 3 are no problem, but the inking part is - for me.
How do I go about drawing nice clean lines in Photoshop, some flowing from thick to thin - like I would do if i were inking a comic on paper?
Also is there any solution for turning the page in PS that doesn't degrade the image?...
Insights, ideas, comments, and/or links to good tuts would all be greatly appreciated...

[Edit: Arg (slaps head) I should have seen that you said you used a tablet in your first post.]
Quizboy - there are many solutions to getting thick to thin flowing lines in PS, the easiest was is to use a tablet, the preshure you put on the pen desides how thick and thin the line is. However if this isn't an option for you (the cost af a tablet might be prohibitave) there is an option (I will refer to PS 7 because that is what I use although the option can be found in older versions of PS it is just located in a different place) in the brushes tab in the upper right of the screen under the shape dynamics sub menu there is a pull down menu called control and allows you to pick from off, fade, pen preshure etc. settings. If you want to get the effect using a mouse you will want to select fade from the menu and play with the new setting that become avaliable once you select it inorder to get the falloff you want.
I am sorry but I don't understand the question dealing with "turning the page". Perhaps you mean saving the image? If so you can save the image as a .tga or .bmp (there are others but I am afraid I can't list them off the top of my head) file format and your image will suffer no quality loss.
Hope this helps,
Don

thanks don, the deal is i'm using a tablet. but the problem is that to detail all those lines and get a smoothly flowing arc with some accuracy it would be nice to be able to re-orient the canvas regularly so that i can follow the curves with the natural flow of my hand - the way i would do on regular paper.
Photoshop obviously has the rotate canvas function, but the problem is that the image degrades every time PS has to recalulate the pixels and realign the image.
Ok, so some have recommended using a vector graphics program like Illustrator or Freehand to make the ink lines - but as far as i know those programs don't have the pressure sensitive option when making vector lines and so you get nice curves - but only of uniform thickness.
I'm thinking i can't be the only one who has ever wanted to do comic book style art from start to finish in the computer, so i'm hoping to bump into someone who has an idea how this is best approached...

I've got bad news for you Quizboy ...
Other than the option of using paths and the pen tool (you can control your lines with bezier handles ... kinda like the nurbs modelling of drawing) ... there is only ONE method I've found that works to my satisfaction ...
Pen control on the tablet ... (ie ... tons of hair-pulling practice ...)
It's the only thing that works for me to get the line quality I want ... unfortunately, it took me years of struggle to get there, and I'm STILL faster with a pencil. paper and scanner ...
I've since been using the pen tool to a certain degree ... but you might just have to fight through it ....
Sorry ...
Al.
PS There is a third option ... a five thousand dollar CINTIQ tablet ... heheheh ... I'm saving up for one myself ...

oh yes my man! this is exactly what i need...
A powerful new way to work directly on the screen.
Optimize Your Work Style
Wacom's Cintiq 18sx and 15x interactive pen displays combine the advantages of an LCD monitor with the control, comfort, and productivity of Wacom's patented cordless, batteryless tablet technology. By working directly on the screen, you navigate much more quickly and naturally. Both products enable you to adjust the incline to your liking, and the 18sx stand allows you to rotate your work surface as you would a pad of paper for a completely natural work approach.
Ok, just to get the group fund going to sponsor the advancement of my skills...takers?
