View Full Version : What Can You In R8.1 Which You Can't In XL7-XL6?
Scott M C4D 06-28-2003, 11:33 PM Hiya,
Just thought that it would be interesting to see what you can do in R8.1 that you would find impossible, or difficult to do previous versions of Cinema 4D.
Like modeling, texturing, lighting ect.. and the use of the plugin's from the XL or Studio Bundles.
It would be cool to see the advantages of R8.1.
Cheers

well... the thing is there's nothing really... but then that's like saying you can do the same stuff in bryce, i mean you can, but it would be painful. and that's all there is to is. cinema 4d 8.1 has made doing things a lot easier. modelling you've got edge modelling etc. animation you have an incredible ammount of control now that everything is animateable on a per channel basis. then there's xpresso, which puts scripting like control in the hands of mere mortals (i.e. none of the pain of having to learn COFFEE), then there's decent DOF, Glow and Highlight post effects, spectral shader, multiple object/tag selection and manipulation, realtime feedback of objects attributes having been changed... these are all great workflow improvements, but honestly they don't give you stuff that was impossible before, they just do it about a million times better, and make some thigns that might have seemed impossible, possible. then there's the modules. thinking particles allows you to do things that i guess really weren't possible before, like generate simplistic softbodies, spawn on collision or any other event you can think of, stuff like that... mocca allows you to capture movment from your mouse/whatever, as well as giving use SoftIK which at it's simplest is giving us Jiggle deformations...
the list goes on and on. the only thing i would say is download the demo and try it.

native HRDI support (r8.1) yum!
and most importantly ... 90% (or so) reduction in modal windows to clutter up yo' workspace
Its not really something you can do but all objects now have there own ID. So you don't have to deal with two of the same objects screwing up your target expresssion or anything like that.
