guys , can anyone tell me why maya rendering is messed up.
Im pretty sure that im doin something wrong but when i render my models it looks like a low quality sh*t.
then i turn all the quality settings up using software render, still not that great. i have no idea why its like this. Please people who know the solution help me out.

Well, could have a lot of reasons.
Mostly, itīs because the image in the render window is scaled at 100%. Just tie the Render View a bit bigger (move your mouse over the window border, till it turns to a double arrow and scale it bigger) and then hit the "1:1" Button

here are my renders, as i said it looks bad, compared to 3d studio max, i like maya a lot, modeling is so much better, but rendering is just killin me, if i knew what the problem is then maya would be the bitch.

yeah, that hammer looks too blurred even though i used software renderer , production quality, highest antialias quality ,
still looks not sharp, i have no clue why.
If you guys could tell me what u do when u render,
and btw when i render it in maya right before i save it, it looks like sh*t too, with messed up edges and stuff.
if max is better for u go and use max :hmm:
bevel the edge and linear smooth

Is it a modelling issue? You sharpened up your edges?

i would say it dont look so good because you ahve nothing on it. its just a model there is no texture lighting, taht is going to help out alot.

It's blurred too much probably because of your render globals settings. You should lower your multipixel filter setting or try a different multipixel filter. Antialiasing is pretty much a form of blur to get rid of any ugly edges. Your problem is that your antialiasing too much.
Also the image is B&W, why do you care how blurry it is and why do you care about the quality. Shouldn't you wait till you have better lighting and textures on it before you start worrying about quality of the render. At this point you should have all the setting at their lowest just so you can quickly look at it.
I dont think its Blurry, I think if u brighten up the background color make it like a blue it woun't look blurry

Shouldn't you replace "better" with "easier" ? :)
One thing i noticed with the renderer in Max is that its overall easier and faster to setup.
Especially the light tracer thingy which gives good results in it's default form already.
If anyone knows how Maya people can render light-tracer-like.... please do :)
Would love to know that !

Ya, 3DSMaxs is sweet
One of the ways to do it with mental ray is to turn on final gathering, change the rendering camera environment to grey, turn off lights and render ... it looks ok but nothing special
I was hoping mental ray would do a better kob than 3DSMax
