View Full Version : Basics; move point tool?

Is there a way to make the move point tool affect all points under the mouse pointer/cursor (like LightWave's "Drag Tool")?

For example, Draging a cube corner in an orthogonal view in Lightwave will drag the near and far corners together (both points under the cursor/pointer), but in XSI using "m" only the near corner point will move, unless I'm missing a setting somewhere...

I know I could use the supra translate tool "v" in tag mode (which is pretty quick), but I'm just wonding if there's a faster, more "LightWavey" way...

more ways

1. select them all :)
2.
activate proportional mode
(you can adjust the falloff by an encoded fcurve - to access it click on the prop button)

enjoy

Thanks for the reply marci2001, I probably should't be making an issue out of it, XSI's alternatives aren't that arduous, it's just one of those little tools I've gotten used to :)

I don't think proportional move will emualte Drag, unless there's a way to set the proportion to infinite along the Z (relative to the viewport, not world/local z).

A more real-world example of Drag would be modifying a characters face in profile; drag moves points on both sides of the face, not just the nearest point.

The 'M" key also works with the selected XYZ. So if you only select the X axis in the Translation and then use the M key it will only translate in the X axis.

I don't really now how it works in Lightwave, but "prop" can be configured to have a harsh falloff instead of the smooth falloff.

But again.. I don't know Lightwave so I don't know what you are after :)

there's no drag (proportional would be more like magnet or a perspective dragnet) but if you feel the need to quickly move wider selections just use shift + and it will expand the selection, and then use the handles.
with the new manipulators in 3.5 you don't need to switch between tag+transform and move as much as it was needed before.

there's currently no srhink selection but you can do that with a simple commands script that goes like this

invert selection
grow selection
invert selection

^ the above will provide a shrink selection tool (wich I personally have on shift - ).
