If hitting the f3 and f4 dont work, maybe theres to much in the scene,or model, my computer does this occasionally but only when im scattering 16000 blades of grass, apart from that maybe you need to muck around with your graphic card settings.Or
make sure you have show textures in viewport enabled its the little whit and blue box in youy material editor, thats all i can think it mightbe .
I hope this was a help????

thx for the effoort, but no . . . .

it doesn't even do it with a scene that only has a sphere and yes i did mark the "show in viewport" toggle in the mat.ed.

this is startin to ROYALLY piss me off :annoyed:

Maybe as a drastict measure you could reset max to all its origanal defaults,I know this is a pain considering you will have to back all your work ,but it might just do the trick????
If not maybe email discreet???

Don't know if you tried this before re-installing but when Max decides to go 'avant garde' as it is prone to do, delete the ini file.. it writes a new one and can cure quite a few ills in the process. :)

It seems some driver/hardware issue. What video card do you have? Are you running max in OpenGL? Does this also happen in direct3d or heidi mode?
Cheers!

I dont know about this, but maybe apply a UVW mod will do the trick?
I think it was all i needed to do to make the textures visible, but this might be wrong :)

I had the same problem, and I managed to fix it by deleting an entry in my 3dsmax.ini. I don't have max here, but look under the openGL or driver heading... back up your ini file and hack around, I remember that it was really easy once I had looked through the file.

I had the same problem as Equinoxx with 3DMax 3.1 now I got Max4.
But isn't there just a toolbar option (of vieuwing texture's in your vieuwport) were you can select and deselect it .

The best solution :lightbulb is always the easiest.

If you're running in OpenGL open the file oglgfx.ini that is in the 3dsmax folder and check if it is set to MultiTexture=1
If it is MultiTexture=0 change to 1 and happy texturing! ;)
Cheers!

I don't know id this is the thing you didn't tried but maybe it could be it. I just discovered it during texturing my challenge.
if you have the material screen> then under the material bals you have a cubus which has a blue whitte texture if you click on it you can select the option> vieuw or don't vieuw material in vieuwport

hope it helps

Maybe a very stupid answer. But did you enabled show texture in viewport in the material editor?

Sorry you already tried that.

I had the same problem here but I use the uvw remove utility and only remove the material and re-assign my material
