I want to try to create a logo design with the "F" letter that is closely tied into the idea of "money". Because $ is the most recognizable, I have been trying to come up with a efficient base design that can combine the simple power of the "$" sign, while still allowing our name to be readable.

What design creates this link the best? Which is the best design? Do you have any modifications of these designs that would create a stronger mental link between the "F" and the "$"?

well I think only design 12 comes close to what you describe.

All the others don't inspire wealth, upper classness :) and sophistication. So it might be that those are inspired on the dollar but they are far too lose, unreadable and for lack of better terminology, playful/childlike.

Remember that the designer of the dollar logo (as far as you could say that in those times) wanted a symbol that represented the big banks with all their pillars and red carpets. It should say this is worth its value in gold and forget people that it's actually a piece of paper they are holding.

With that in might I will suggest you try to do another 6 or so designs with number 12 as a starting point. Then you can choose among those. Since now there is only a choice of 1 basicly.

God luck with getting your ideals into a logo !

Put your THINKING cap back on.

You are attempting to alter a dollar sign and combine it with a capital 'F'

Start with established fonts on your PC in Photoshop.

Type out a Dollar sign, and a capital 'F' in White, on a Black background. Highlight them (you'll now see black type on white background where it's highlighted, and then scroll through through every font you have, comparing the symbol and the letter. You cannot skip this step. LOOK and see the similarities many 'F's have to their corresponding $. Look for fonts where the F and S look similar in shape. Look for fonts where they are totally different. Why?

You can also check out free font sites, but you'll have to visually compare them with all the other letters and symbols standing around... ;)

THEN get your sketchpad, and make NO LESS than 25 interpretations. If you are being paid by a client, you would do no less than 50-100...Then pare it down to the top 10% (10-12) of those, and see if you can make further embellishments.

THINK. KNOW your subject. Only the first design looks enough like and 'F' AND a '$' to be recognizable, the rest look just oddly flourished.

Hope this helps.
