View Full Version : Vector illustration at high level
joacim 06-28-2003, 04:00 AM Hi again. :)
Im working on a new picture where i use Adobe Illustrator to learn more on how to work with vector. I use a Photo as reference.
Im still far from done. But i think its time to get some good feedback on whats good and bad.
Pls give me some comments on what u think of this picture and how it looks.

There's an odd red outline in her eyes that seems very strange. Bloodshot?

Wanna post the referance picture too plz? Spenkz :P
Her left hand looks wierd. Actually that whole left arm is really bizzarre. The distance of the wall looks like it's not far enough away for her arm to rest in that position comfortably. The wrist is at an extreme angle. I figure you should be seeing more of the side of the hand ... guess I'd have to see the ref image.
Is your reference image of a woman laying down? It looks almost like she's standing and you just rotated the image. I say that because of the lack of weight in her buttocks and back (they should flatten out more when laying on them).
The foreground hand and arm is really nicely done. Amazing that anyone can do this kind of work with Illustrator. I never had the patience for that application. I guess vector work reminds me too much of pulling vertices in 3D software. :argh:

gmask: hmm intresting
alikzam13: here u go =)

Thnx!
Here is the reference:

Wow ... after seeing it, I don't believe it. She's got to be pretty fit to not flatten out when laying down. I'm strangely excited now ... hehehehhe.
Now about that hand ... you did good replicating the photo, but maybe you should take some artistic liberties to correct what is an odd looking pose. Make the arm and hand set in a different pose. Even though it's correct by the picture, it's visually disturbing and could look better at a different angle.
Does that make sense?
Oh ... and the wall looks further away in the photo because it has focal blur (the wall and her furthest arm). Can you replicate that with Illustrator?

Kirt: hehehe... yes she is extremly fit or maybe photoshop has helped her =)
Anyway...
About the hand. Thats a good idea, il see if i can change that pose. But its very timetaking to change it. But i will do a try. But i will finnish the picture first with this pose.
Yes... it does make sense =)
Can you replicate that with Illustrator?
>I dont know =) But i will try to make it more blury
Once more some GREAT feedback from u.
Thnx!!!
More comments =)

great work so far
to tell u the truth, i think that LESS detail on the hair will strengthen the overall piece. a little less detail on the hair- mainly just the highlights and shadows - will give it that great vector look - like the rest of the body
but hell, it still looks great
im always a fan of good looking vector
