View Full Version : Fast way to blend colors.
xX_eXiGe_Xx 01-29-2009, 12:51 PM So on a dvd tutorial i watched, the person blended colors by making paint strokes and then blended the strokes with the backround so it looked great!
But the thing is that when I do it, it looks really ugly! I do it like this: I make a paint stroke, and then I use smudge on it, and it doesn't blend with the backround at all! It just looks like the paint stroke just got blurred, that's all. Help!

Photoshop lacks a little in the area of blending paint strokes the way, say, Painter does, but there are a few things you could try. First, make sure you're using a painterly brush when using that smudge tool, the speckled ones that look like the end of a thick paint brush. Also, you will want to select the "Direction" setting in Brushes Palette/Shape Dynamics/Angle Jitter/Control. While you're in there, tweaking the Scattering settings just a tiny bit can help with realism and break up some of that blurred look.

hi, IŽd second exactly what Russel said ..
in case you are interested, you may have a look at the possible settings that may help a bit (incl. palette settings & screen-captured behavior "in action") in a little tutorial I did some time ago (and posted in my sketchbook, link here (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showpost.php?p=5294821&postcount=86)) ..
perhaps this may be of some help, too ..
cheers, a.
