hi this is my first post here, and sorry if it's not in the correct forum. and I have a pretty vague question, I hope someone can help me though: (I am using Maya 2008)

I have modeled, UV mapped, textured and almost finished rigging a head of a character I designed. I want to model the rest of his body now, but I'm concerned with a couple things:

-should i create the body as a separate object so the UV maps don't compete with the head UV's?,

-or should I create the separate pieces (his body, his armor, etc.) in different scenes and then import them all into one? just a little confused how this works. ANY advice is awesome, i'm pretty new to all this. thanks! :)

In my opinon I think you need to know what your charcter is wearing, and what you're going to do with it. If your characters body is wearing armor or whatever I'd model the body seperately with the armor extruded off the body GEO in the same scene file as the head.

But I'd only do that if you can't see where the neck connects to the rest of the body. That way you can hide the base of the neck by tucking it into the clothing/armor or whatever. That way you eliminate the need to duplicate the entire body for facial blendshapes.

But, if you can see where the neck connects to the body, you're gonna have to make the head and body one piece, or get creative with things to hide the area where they connect. (Chokers, necklaces, chains...)

thanks, that helps a TON! he'll actually have a bunch of cloth clumped up around his neck, so that should work perfectly. thanks again!
