Title: Ghormenghast - Queen's Bedroom
Name: N. Johnson
Country: USA
Software: Photoshop

This is an image from one of my favorite book trilogies, the Ghormenghast series. I was struck by the description of the Queen and her collection of white cats.

I'm having trouble finishing this piece - I just can't seem to organize the values very well. I want it to be all white, very high key but emphasize the center of the image where the Queen is. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I might do that?

Thank you!

really cool, i think you have already got a good style and colors layed there, I'm not sure about the keys you want, but probably a stronger lighting coming behind the chair could help.. but as said, perhaps its already good the way it is. Good luck!

hI over there, nice work.
Even if you want to keep as highlight, try to think where you would set other lights in the scene to get the light's direction in order to emphasize the character.
I would probably set a directional light pointing to her from a top angle (right, left) and other to fill the space, if you keep working with subtle values , you can get soft shadows too.

Try to think as if you were in a theater.Hope it helps..
cheers!

Thanks guys,

Kapne, thanks for the ideas. You're right. Maybe I could use shadows to greater effect? I'll give it a try. :)

Nice effect! All that white, and still very readable. 4 stars!

Neilie that's cool image! I don't think you have change anything, the red is just capturing the interest and the perspective lines are going right to that spot. Love those cats expressions!
