Anyone know what type of graphic system requirements EITGs next gen EIAS and Tesla will need?

I'm curious if the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M will suffice on a Laptop.

Also, does it matter whether you go with an ATI or with a NVIDIA graphics card on a desktop? Does EIAS have a preference?

I'm starting to pull together my needs for a new Mac and see what the costs will be.

I'm leaning to a Pro Mac... but my budget may end up leaning the other way. We have a 2002 PC laptop and a 1999 Mac g4/400 desktop to replace.

My work with EIAS/EIM/Tesla will be to continue to learn the software with slow but steady progress, geared towards still images, character work, and graphic stories with a final hope of turning them into short animated films.

Thank you,

Mike

EITG has been pretty good to keep the hardware requirements for EIAS within reasonable limits. I doubt Tesla will be any different. A GeForce 9400M should be fine.

Apple has a little note next to the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M performance saying

"Memory available to Mac OS X may vary depending on graphics needs. Minimum graphics memory usage is 256MB. " ... http://www.apple.com/macbook/specs.html

Sounds like it can use more then the 256mb, does anyone concur? I haven't had a chance to find articles on how the GPU uses memory yet.

My Capital expenditure analyst and chief finance officer[my Wife] has tentatively ok'd a Macbook and EIAS upgrade... considering I'm coming from a G4/400, I suspect a rather nice increase in computer power and performance.

Cheers,

Mike

Hey Mike,

I just got a mac pro about 4 months ago. It's a beast. Personally I feel like its too much power and I could of just gotten an iMac. Rendering is fast but then again I'm running EI3 and 4 respectively. So for what its worth if you don't need the work horse you can settle for the donkey.

(I have a four core Mac Pro, and tried what someone commented about: to create a few more slaves than the number of cores suggests. I am working with six Cameras, and most of times the gains in frames per cycle outweight the general slowdown in the Cameras. So I think a Core Duo could use three slaves and become its own mini-renderfarm)
