I saw on the Maxon Spotlight that MotionGimmick is coming out with some kind of nurbs plugin. Unfortunately the page is only in German and the trasnlators can make no sense of it. Anyway have any insight into this? http://www.motion-gimmick.com/patch.htm

Okay, according to Babblefish:

"New Modelling Tool under Cinema version 8.x MAC and PC Patch it Conditions of the things: Momentarily we examine the run stability of the Plugins, therefore ask still patience, the Modellingbeispiel only one explanation assistance for the function mode of the Patch Modellers is to be. Which the Modeller will be able to do, is the following: Whether punktwolken, Splines, Meshes or Nurbs, "patch it" create overview of the points in the 3D-Raum by different representation of the points in the area. It manufactures connecting surfaces between most different geometry, as soon as these were pushed with drop of dragee and into the Pluginfenster. The user can test the best Patch result with Tryangles first in which opinion (also camera opinion) is obtained. The points are gepatcht depending upon situation within the opinion from the foreground to the background. Only with ok one, MakeIt is produced the PatchObjekt. The Patch is capable for editing."

Not exactly illuminating, is it?

On an OT note I sure wish english support for C4D would become more prevalent (i.e. books etc). I know that we are dealing with a German company but ughhhh... babelfish can only do so much as evidenced by AdamT's quote....

funny but ... uggghhhh :surprised

...Please do not look at the man behind the curtain

I´m not german nor english so I might have created another Bablefish version:

New modeling tool for Cinema version 8.x Mac and PC

How far we are:

At the moment we test the stabilty of the plugin, please be patient, the modeling example is only meant to explain the function of the patchmodeler.
What the modeler is capable of is as follows:
Whether vertexclouds, splines, meshes or Nurbs, "Patch-it" creates an overview of the points in 3D space through different representation of the points in space.

It patches different geometries when these are dragged and dropped onto the plugin window.

Through Tryangles the user can test which view (including cameraview) creates the best patch result. Points are patched depending on their position, from foreground to background, in the view. With "Ok,MakeIt" the patched object will be created.

The patch is editable.

Well, I had some shnitzle and bratworst and read it again. Still didn't make sense. Looks intersting though.

I have their Add the Sea plugin, but the "manual" is in Germenglish and doesn't quite make sense, BUT it does look like you can get grat results.

I wanted to show my character walking through a puddle and was going to use it. I'll have to play around with that a little.

nope, you haven't :) your translation is just fine!

@bobzilla: it's Schnitzel and Bratwurst ;) That's probably why it still doesn't make sense...
well, actually, i understand the german version and i'm still not quite sure what it will bring...

hi adam:
i can read german, sorry this is NOT a nurbs plugin, although its a very powerfull modelling tool- but the results are polygon based as all other things are in cinema.

as i see it it is more like a point cloud tool. it can use MIXED sourses like polygons, splines, points etc and loft a skin over it- much like the lofting tool. technically it seems it is converting every parts into pointclouds and then loft a skin over it. the nice thing is it says it still will be edtitable like hypernurbs for example.

i think this is a very interesting tool, it is yet another great modelling help like hypernurbs are. but as it is to this time, all this stuff arent real ACIS nurbs. i am also not sure if something could be done as a plugin, without beeing into the cinema code.

cheers

Thanks for the replies. It looks like an interesting plugin, but I guess we'll have to await further news--and hopefully a demo version--to see how useful it will really be.

CosmicBear: I DO appologize if I've offended anyone with my weak attempt at humor. Yeah, I had NO idea had to spell those.

And BTW, the people at Motion Gimmick have been extremely helpful with any queries I had about their plugins. The language thing just makes it a little confusing sometimes.
