Digital Sculpting Forum (http://cube.phlatt.net/forums/spiraloid/index.php) - A lot of professional modelers here. Good place to read up on techniques, but if you want to post you should read the rules first!

SoftImage Tutorials (http://www.edharriss.com/tutorial.html) - Here are bunch of tutorials for XSI & 3D.

Maya Tutorials (http://www.3dlinks.com/tutorials_alias.cfm) - Maya tutorials, including a bunch of modelling ones.

Reference Images (http://www.planetquake.com/shattered/shine/images/ref/) - A wide variaty of reference images.

Weapon Reference (http://www.securityarms.com) - a pic of almost every gun you can think of.

But of coarse, these boards are the best reference.

Hey admins...what about making a section purely for tutorials? I'm pretty sure that would go down pretty well with everyone, and save a lot of searching around and repeated questions.
Does that sound OK?

I think the tut section is a good idea, what I would like to see is something like 3dluvr has, when someone makes something really cool, they give a little insight into the approach used.

www.suurland.com for your references of cars, plains, and a cathedral :D

um modelling tuts.....use google, you find amazing unkown tutorials...soemtimes it is for other packages than you use, but the technique is mostly the same.

And anothjer comment is that you only need a few tutorials on how the technique works and not tutorials of all objects in the world. So learn the technique and not making the object itself :)

have phun

Fade of Light, there are many ways to get to an end result. Reading a single tutorial by anyone may give the basic skills required for that technique, but it doesn't necessarily mean that the author/artist has done things in most efficient way, or in some cases done them properly. I personally like to see different tuts. Even now that I have some descent skills, I never take for granted that the approach I use is the best way. I like seeing alot of tuts, that's just me!:)

This human head tutorial (http://www.figure2productions.com/EI_HeadTut/EI_TutIntro.html) is for ElectricImage Modeler's UberNURBS tool but anyone using a NURBS based modeler should be able to folow along.

Also if you want good head & figure reference, check out "The Figure on CD (http://www.figure2productions.com/) ." The disk isn't free but it is still good reference. The tutorial is totally free.

I just posted a thread here:

about a new headmodelling tut I just wrote. The basics of it are usable for lowpoly modelling too (I use almost the same steps for hipoly or lowpoly).

I don't know how decent the tut is, but at least it's in English :D

I posted this in the Max forum too, but forgot about this one. This is not the standard box-modeled head tutorial, but instead, is created using edge extrusion. It's a very quick technique, and will let you do heads like this in about half an hour.

it is 3dmeNOW a program that you can download from www.biovirtual.com
from two pictures (one from front and one of your profile)of you head the program can modeliz your head!
and to modify it in 3ds max you have to download the pro version (even if it is expensive you just download the demo .no matter)and in the directory of the program there 's a plugin for 3ds to import the *.bio files which you can make with 3dmenow

for the 3dmenow demo download it here http://www.biovirtual.com/3DMeNow/update.htm

and the pro version is here:

Danila Master see this one for modeling hair without any 3-rd party plugins:

http://www.xenomorphic.co.uk/doc_oldhair.htm

Or if you are a ShagHair fan check the Joan of Arc tutorial. You can find it translated in English at 3dtotal.com(navigate to the tutorials section ,then 3dmax tutorials and find it from the big list) and http://mr2k.3dvf.com/ for the original french version.

I don't know but maybe some simple planes mapped with detailed textures will do the work!Hope some of these will help you!:)

any plane will be fine. Thanks for the link even tho i dont use lightwave.I'm working on an extensive airplane tutorial for 3D Studio Max (for a P51-D Mustang), it's taking me longer than expective as it rather detailed. I'll try to have it finished next week...

In the meanwhile, check out my tutorials at www.3dnuts.com/tutorials.shtml (http://www.3dnuts.com/tutorials.shtml)

- Modeling a chess pawn shows some basic modeling techniques for an editable poly

- A tutorial on how to create glass material

- A tutorial on how to create glass, copper, and silver material

- and one on how to create those cool renders where the wireframe is still partly visible (without using photoshop).

I don't know ,never did an animation whit this kind of hair, but maybe for some simple animation FDD box or Flex modifier will do the work.

I didn't see Chris's, (Ol Blue), site posted. It has to be one of the best places on the web to find free video tutorials. Honestly, it would take you a couple months to watch them all. There are 32 free video tuts. Each tutorial has many sections which bumps the number up over 100. He just posted the largest and best car modeling tutorials on the web, and it's free! The tutorial is by Blittze and it's Modeling an Audi A3, which is divided into 17 videos and must be 2 hrs long. It's a must site for beginers and intermediate 3d'ers.

I really suggest sponsering him. It's worth getting the super large tutorials. The Scopion tutorial in the sponser section is 14 hrs long. And, purchase the APU tutorial which comes on two CDs and is 50 hours long! It covers modeling, rigging, texturing and animation.

Absolutely the best site, other than this one of course, around. http://www.3d-palace.com (http://www.3d-palace.com/)

if you're talking about 3ds max tuts, go to 3dtotal.com

that's where I started out, and their forums are much more beginner friendly than this forum (although i love cgtalk)....their forums are at threedy.com

they have tuts by type and i believe 3dsmax is the first section...they have a car tut, a character tut, plants, whatever the hell you want...your best bet is just to strap yourself to your chair and read thru every freaking post ever on all of these forum sites...you'll learn a lot ;)

Hi guys,

I found some time ago a tutorial on how to model a couch and render it in vray but i cannot find it anymore.
It was a pretty detailed one, on how to make the wrinkles on the leather and the bend of the arm.

If anybody has a clue or a guess on what i am talking about could you please post the link?

Thanks!

hey everyone I was wondering if anyone knew of any good tutorials for character patch modeling in maya. I know I'm a little crazy to be doing a patch model instead of a poly model but I've been wanting to give a try on a really serious patch model for some time. I having a few issues with a couple areas and wondering if anyone knows of any good tutorials.

I seem to have been erm, absent from class this day, but how do you know when to model in Nurbs, polys or sub-ds?

I can model just fine in any of them, but I can't understand how each affects the outcome. I want to model say - a character that animates in a short. I want to use very fine textures and set it up for voice-sync later on.

If anyone knows of not only good links, but also good books, dvds, courses, please post. I think maybe what I'm talking about is the pipeline of animation. The ability to understand how each stage affects the results is very important to me and with Maya being such an insane beast to conquer, I am constantly running into brick walls.

I'm also posting for the first time, so please forgive me if this has already been answered.

cheers,
jyp jeejj

Hi to you all. I was wondering, the link to www.secondreality.ch is as dead as can be, but there was a fantastic tut on boxmodeling a head. Anyone having ideas if it would be still available somewhere else ore maybe someone saved the entire tut on his HDD. If you would be so kind than can send it to philip.van.paemel@pandora.be. I need it rather fast. Thank you all for your help for now.

Quite a coincidence I just uploaded the site again today :)

Secondreality is now found at secondreality.us (http://www.secondreality.us) or arildwiro.com (http://www.arildwiro.com)

I lost the secondreality.ch domain when the invoices didn't catch up with my constant moving and it was snatched up by a pornsite (luckily that doesn't seem to exist any more either). Now I got two domains, just in case...

I got bored http://e.deviantart.com/emoticons/s/smile.gif

if i don't mind saying so Camtasia kinda slowed me down was like i had low FPS and the cursor flashes while recording rofl annoying you'll notice me speeding up n slowing down some times...

Also i wouldn't advise peeps to build this the way i did but it was kinda spur of the moment thing maybe a if i did "a here's what i made earlier" it probably would have turned out more accurate.

This project, which is a "follow-along" tutorial, shows my methods for recreating one of the most challenging aircraft I've done in 3D, Lockheed-Martin's F/A-22 "Raptor". I'm pleased with the results so far, and will be adding a huge amount of detail as time goes on.

With the exterior shape very close to final. I've made a large number of boolean cuts, which create many of the doors and vents that are visible on the exterior. (Images here were made just after the cuts... Later, the doors will be appropriately colored, textured, and animated.)

The article begins at http://www.mikejamesmedia.com/f_22_01_intro.html with the latest updates at http://www.mikejamesmedia.com/f_22_edits_12.html and i'm happy with the results so far.

Take care!

I'm wondering if you could help me out. I lost a very good tutorial about modeling / texturing a female head. It was not really a step by step tutorial but more a collection of techniques for creating a photorealistic female. It described how to create a realistic eye, skin shader, textures, ...

It was in a PDF format, I think I got it from the forums (it may have been written by one of the members), but I can't find it anymore and it's hard to remember all the details.

A series of videos that show the modeling of a plastic coke bottle, from beginning to end. The entire process took about three hours and forty minutes but I increased the playback speed on the mundane and redundant sections so the total play time is around two hours and fifteen minutes.
Here (http://www.youtube.com/ronviers) is the link to my channel, but I have noticed that the video size is increased if you click on the lower right section of the video, where it says 'Play On Youtube'. Also, be sure to enable annotations if you would like a description of what is happening.
Thanks, all feedback welcome.

Hey guys. I'm releasing my classroom guides, it is very simple since these guides are made under assumptions that the students have 0 experience in modeling.

But of course the basic modeling, concept, interface introductions etc should be taught beforehand.

The guide was made under 3D Studio Max 6. Yes, it is old but I assume it's still usable since I don't see much change in 3D Studio Max workflow/interface.

These curriculum was tested for couple of years during my employment at Tridigital Academy. And the student have great response and great understanding at the concept and material.

Hopefully people can find a good use out of these guides. Currently I'm processing the main curriculum. And slowly I will release the guides as soon as they're clean from copyrighted materials.

You may use it anyway you like as long as you give proper credits to me.

and oh I won't mind some critics if you have any.

Cheers and enjoy.

thanks.

It was ooold class exercise module. I wrote it in 2005.

I'll have to take a look on it whether all the files are still intact. It's suppose to be in my archive DVD but I have to scavenge through them. Organizing DVD isn't my specialty apparently. lol.

When I found it I'll upload it somewhere using public file sharing.

Hi people,
Here is a little PDF tutorial I wrote for box-modeling a human/humanoid male body base. It won a little Intel tutorial competition, but is nothing super special - just a basic guide. The focus is on creating a model that works well in animation.

http://www.cgmascot.com/design/tutorial-model-body/

I'm also giving away the final mesh (OBJ-format) in 3 versions: bulky(hero) male, normal male, normal woman. You may use the bases however you like, for example as base for futher modeling or sculpting, but not for sale. This stuff, like all the other things on my blog (http://www.cgmascot.com/), is free learning material. I'm introducing the blog on a separate thread (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?f=25&t=909094).

BTW I'm working on a video tutorial for complete character creation. That will futher elaborate on the modeling approach used in the above tutorial.

hi

i just uploaded this video tutorial i did a while back, showing hardsurface modeling techniques. Although it is in modo it shows techniques that can easily be transfered to any other 3d modeling package.

Hi all,
This tutorial is intended for novice modelers who face the challenge of modeling large city areas where roads incline a lot. The tutorial was created basically for 3dsmax users - I assume the techniques could well be used for any other modeling package.

Hi everyone,

I've begun producing a series of tutorial Videos showing how GroBoto fits into a workflow with other 3D Apps.

This video focus on a GroBoto/modo workflow (and includes some custom resources -- a PDF file & modo scripts).
However, it applies to the general noton of using GroBoto to set up for poly/subD modeling in any major 3D app.

The VideoKit - Notes & Support Files - ZIP file about 8.5 meg:

Are there any good polygonal tutorials for a Maya beginner? In my current class, we're focusing on polygons.
Specifically for character modeling, if possible.

Hey everyone,

I haven't been on here for a long time. But recently, I've had a lot of people tell they can't find my Organic Modeling DVD anymore because it is no longer in production. So I decided to put the entire contents of it on Youtube.

Over three hours of poly character modeling from box to finish of the human body...
http://esotareq.squarespace.com/tutorials/

I've also included the model created in the videos...

Enjoy!
