View Full Version : Something great should come

DELTAadmin

I think after looking into Maxon's official website day by day that something great would come, at least I conclude it from the fact that almost nothing is posted there since 'ages'. This silence usually means that they are working. What do you think? Cinema 9, or some update? Yep, this is not my business, but I wish it.

I guess nothing will happen before Siggraph, it would be stupid if they didn't exploit Siggraph for their new toys if any will come.

I think they would be killed by all the people who just bought 8 if there is already 9 around the corner. :D

I do not think that, learn how little intervals AVID, Alias W, Discreet keep in since their prev, versions. XSI 3.0 was issued last year autumn, now they are at 3.5, Maya almost the same, and Discreet shortly publishes Max 6, even if it was issued last summer.

I think the more people are interested in 3D, the more money for creating new version are available for developers. ...

Don't forget that XSI 3.5, Maya 5.0 and 3DS Max 5.0 are just some small updates, nothing breathtaking imo. C4D 8.0 has been a rewrite, and i bet 9 will add a ton of new features too, so i guess we'll have to wait for a while. Don't forget a thing tho: Maxon usually releases 3 point versions before they give users a new rel. We're still using 8.1 so i guess we'll have to wait for 8.2 and 8.3 before we see R9.

Way to early for R9........ these guys are working their behinds off :applause: , but they´re not that fast! My bet is new version of Bodypaint, maybe and really just maybe a pointrelease (nodebased material system anyone? ) and hopefully the Fbx support plugin.

Remember that they usually update the modules in their x.2 rel (remember dynamics in 7.2?). The x.1 fixes bugs and completes the x.0 new features (like hdri and the new nodes in 8.1). The x.3 usually adds more new stuff.

Right! - I just got carried away there for a second ..... *sigh*.

Hi,
there is no rule for this. That .1 updates are fixing bugs doesn't come as a surprise since all updates fix bugs ;)
New features are included when ready or neccesary but the version number is not dependent from that in any way.
Cheers

i don't think there will be a release 9 in the next few months ... first there will be better booler final and (what i think is more realistic) perhaps a new version of bodypaint or an update for bodypaint

I think it's way too early for talk of R9, but you can be sure that the hearty band of Maxon programmers is *always* working. :)

I already buy Cinema 4D 8...
Hope that maxon is not like Adobe because now come out PSD 8, AI 11, and inDesign 3... grr this up-date become a lot expensives for my activity...

BUT the problem is not an eventually up-grade of 9 version, I needed to wait 4 MONTH TO HAVE MY BOX and 1 MONTH MORE to obtain by the swiss distributor MY CODES (temp codes), for the next version MAXON will be faster ???

tell me yes please (if sombody work by MAXON).

If we are entertaining speculation, then the big news would be:

1. FBX support
2. A new release of Bodypaint
3. Dynamics upgrade
4. New Maxon T-shirts and towels for the beach :p

Fbx = Filmbox (now Motionbuilder) -> www.kaydara.com

Michel Besner

FBX is a 3D interchange file format created by Kaydara. Maxon is currently working on adding support for it.

http://www.kaydara.com/products/fbx/index.php

Kaydara also makes a 3D animation software called MOTIONBUILDER.

Not that you would, with those words NDA loooming over your head.

an interesting (and maybe sad) question for all of you long-time C4D users...

in your best bet.. do you think fbx support will come in the form of a plug in (maybe even free?)

will it be in the form of a C4D release 8.2 download? (maybe even free?)

or will we have to pay for a C4D 8.X (or 9) upgrade to get fbx support?

The only reason I ask is because I left my previous 3D software (whose E name I will U not mention :) ) because they require an upgrade to the next version (5.0 just came out... we need to wait for v6) to have fbx and maybe even (one day) UV mapping!

In your best opinion, what is C4D planning to do? Or what is their history? What have they done in the past?

1) as i already said i don't know anything about their plans for the future

2) i said "don't expect R9" for a simple reason, we still haven't seen 8.2 and 8.3, but Bjoern told us that's not a strict rule so now you can expect anything from them, even R10

3) prolly the only person here who knows anything about Maxon plans is Bjoern, who works for Maxon but will not ever tell us a thing about development for obvious reasons.

Cheers

it will definitely be a plugin :)

As for whether its free or not, not sure but I doubt they'd charge, likely would have to be downloaded at least in its initial release, though maybe they'd stick it permanently into future versions.

Dunno what versions woudl be supported.

My prediction of the future of C4D Expansion of the chess idea to include checkers and backgammon, and I will lose to my 3d app for the rest of my life.

Srek's not revealing too much. He's actually telling us nothing we didn't know already by looking at C4D's history.

Advice: be patient and wait for Siggraph. The laws of the universe are such that every 3D-company is obliged to do something impressive in San Diego. And as Maxon is a not the least of 3D-companies...

I think , we may have those things in the next update :

1- complete update for the Dynamics system.
2- new version of bodypaint.
3- SLA ( BhodiNUT shaders) update, it will be imported to the attribute manager.

If you notice on Maxon's site, they'll have a booth at Siggraph this year. That's usually a sign that something new will be introduced around that time. At least some other companies I'm familiar with have skipped Siggy if they didn't have something new to show.

Speaking of the R9 release, how do we go about letting Maxon know what we'd like implemented in the next version?

I for one have a few suggestions in the Mocca / Rigging tools department. (Better setup and constraint tools for hard IK is a good example...)

Hi, the HIK constraint situation will be improved somewhat by my Constrainer tag when it is released. I'm currently working on the manual, it allows you to blend constraints between multiple target effectors. The constraints are PSR (separate P,S and R), Upvector/Pole, Target. Here's a little screengrab of the tools interface to wet your appetite, please note this plugin will not be for free, i will be selling it through my website (link in my profile).

i agree with thirdeye, i was going to point out, at least from version 6 it has gone it 3 updates before version revision. 6.0 .1 .2 and .3 same with 7.x and now with 8.1 i also expect .2 and .3.

SSS would be awesome, and i think it would be cool to update SLA for sure. Perhaps integrate a wire solution...as people seem to like it. I have faith in maxon that they will provide everything that thier end users want.

I would agree with that statement. Having only been a C4D user for a short while I have already experienced Maxon's committment to us customers ... quite astounding really.

I, for one, can definitely "hold tight" and see what they come up with next

Regarding the fbx plugins, the only way I've found to get them so far is from kaydara...
They have a plugin installer to download where you can choose from the different apps to install for.
Guessing when the C4D one is ready it'll just be added to the bundle.
Just got MB 4.03 installed the other day,and I'm DYING to get to try it,
but as I only have C4D I have no way of getting my stuff in there.
Still plenty of fun animating the example characters tho :)

I posted this a few other places and have no idea whether it will work or no...but there goes anyway.

Greenbriar studio has a new Lightwave exporter/importer.
http://www.greenbriarstudio.com/3D/

I would try this:

1. From C4d, export your rigged character to LW via the exporter.

2. Now the hard part. Ask a LW-using friend to import the file in LW on there end--or, if you have LW do it yourself.

3. From LW, export the project as an fbx file (apparently LW supports fbx)

4. import the fbx file into MB.

A real pain in the ass for sure, but if you need MB and C4d together it may work
