Over the past year or so, I have been very interested in creating 3D water effects. I've played around with creating an approximation of sea spray using Krakatoa, that can be seen here...

However, I was looking at Frantic Films site (http://franticfilms.com/software/products/overview/), and they have some very neat software tools to do ocean and sea water even better.

My question is, are these tools ever going to be released for public use? Currently, there is no good way to simulate sea water in Max without it being a huge headache. Anyway, I just thought I'd see what you guys had to say about it.

Yes, I would love to see those plugins out, but if I remember correctly, I was asking Bobo for a long time ago and he said it was an "in house" set not to be released to the public.
I think that is bad... The only thing max has right now is DreamScape and that is not so good, also, we have RealFlow.
But it would be a great release.

Yeah you can purchase Flood:Surf and I highly recommend it. I haven't used it since the beta last year but even then it was a beautiful toy to tinker around with.

In regards to Flood, I too had been hoping that it would be released to the public; ever since seeing some of the demo videos a while back. I always thought it was an amazing tool and would be a welcomed addition to our toolset. But after chatting with some of the Frantic folk it seems like they will keep this one close to their chest. I can totally understand why they would do this from a business perspective. It may also be because of pipeline setup; maybe Flood was specifically designed to work within the confines of Frantic's pipeline and releasing it to the public would prove to difficult.. mere speculation on my part of course.

But for sea simulations I would get in contact with them and see if you can get a trial license of Surf to play around with; I have found Frantic to be very accomodating when it comes to getting you setup with their software and their support service puts you in touch with the people that write the tools so any questions will be answered quickly. :)

hope this helps
