View Full Version : same dumb question... again!
grstovell 06-27-2003, 06:36 AM sorry to bring this up again... I just want to be sure I make the right decision...
a) I know I can set up bones and maps in C4D core release 8
b) I know one day we'll be able to bring in a boned character to MB (via fbx) and back.
c) I know MOCCA is GREAT for CA in C4D...
d) I have the MB PLE from Digit (no manuals... yet)
e) I'm going to get 3DBuzz's MB (with manuals) for $100 in the next few days, and then upgrade to the permanent license (for $100 more) come August.
f) I still don't know how good MB is since I don't have the manuals - therefore not able to understand it as much as I would like.. yet.
g) I have no idea how good MOCCA can be (even if I 've read the whole manual) since I haven't had a chance to use it.... it does look great though.
now, given that.
Can I do without MOCCA for solid CA? Can I realistically set up the bones in C4D 8 (core) and then communicate with MB without the need for MOCCA?
Or would you reccomend that I get MOCCA and forget about MB (which I REALLY like after just playing with it for a few days)
Or do I need to get both MB AND MOCCA (redundant maybe?) ?
Thanks again (especially for letting me drive this question to the ground)

youo don't need both, either or, as for which thats up to you and your work preference.
Hi Rev,
as Kai said: you donīt need both.
Did you download the VTMīs from Buzz? Theyīll come with Motionbuilder when you buy it, so wait untill youīve watched them to really comprehend what MB is capable of. Do download the clipart CD from 3DBuzz, though - it doesnīt come with MB. (Downloads->Motionbuilder -> VTM # 2. Itīs 165 MB) Lots of useful stuff on that.
CU in the line of impatient users waiting for the Fbx plugin.

Right, most of Mocca is redundant to things present in MB. Claude Bonet would still be helpful, but not worth the price of admission by itself.
My wish is that Maxon would make a deal with Kaydara to bundle MB with Cinema. That would give them as good an animation package as exists anywhere and also free them to concentrate their efforts on other aspects of the program. Not likely, but you never know.

That would indeed be awesome! Great idea, Adam!!
yeah maxon really should bundle stuff together. I mean its almost the samething they do with SLA. They didn't have to actually develop that.

hmmm.... let's see:
$400 for MOCCA vs $200 for MB and they do almost the same???
Sounds like a no brainer to me.
I'll go to 3dBuzz later on today.
Thanks guys!
One more q... I'm almost sure, but want to be 100% sure of this.... 3DBuzz sells MB WITH manuals, right?

On a side note: I don't think Kaydara is going to want to have their software bundled with any other. Unfortunately (for us) it takes away from their marketing... let's face it: they are the flavor of the month! And if you draw parallels: how popular is Bodypaint among LW, MAX and MAYA users? (probably more popular than I think... then again, maybe not)
anywhich way, I don't think that's going to happen... bummer!
Ohh... and yes! The million dollar question:
WHEN IS fbx for C4D coming out??? :D :D :D
(there, I said it.)
and they do almost the same???
MB will do a lot more and everything is REALTIME!
Good decision - bad for Maxon ofcourse - but you simply canīt compete with that promotional offer. Next year itīll be 995$, so itīll save you 700$ if you buy now (before July 31th) - that amount will buy you 2 modules from Maxon!
Good for Maxon!
And yes, the 3DBuzz version comes with manuals.

a MB/C4d combo is all contingnent upon fbx support in C4D. If you can wait, it might be best to see how/if that is implemented.

The XL7 for $395 is not upgradeable to v8 XL bundle for $495. It's some kind of special deal, but I don't know what the actual cost is to upgrade it.

the C4D 7xl upgrade option is not applicable for me since I already own release 8... I just couldn't afford XL then.
I still like a lot more the option of C4D and MB... but why then is C4D and Mocca up in votes in my poll? Are those who vote there not posting here? Do they all work for Maxon?:D
just curious.
I'm off to order my MB....

Itīs a do or die situation - offer ends July 31th. Siggraph starts same day and if Maxon announces .fbx support there, itīs perfect timing - if not, itīll come in due time.
but why then is C4D and Mocca up in votes in my poll?
Because itīs integrated with C4D and is a huge step in the right direction - unfortunately Mb is a few steps ahead of that so maybe some of the guys didnīt have a chance to give MB a Spin. Who knows?!
Only 1 vote for MB!! Hmmmmm........ :hmm: - wonder who that was?

I stated my opinion and didn't vote. I'm not going to influence your decision one way or the other, best thing is to test em both out and see which gets results easier, faster, or better (or more thenone of those, whatsever important to you) The two are totally fdifferent, as was mentioned moccas is integrated and you know theres no issues with exporting and possibble loss or change of data.
MB is not typical IK, its whats becoming more and more popular now though, whtehr mirai, MB, Animanium, they are al using similar concepts on how to animate with pinning and such. In some ways its a lot easier, in others it can sometimes be a pain. MB comes with a built in visual selector and prebuilt riging setups that automatically setup in the visual selector at the same time.
Its your money and your choice, all I was making sure was that you understood you dont' have to have both.

thanks everyone!!!!!!
I went for MB. Ordered my copy... it should be here in a few days!!!!
Not sure I'll be doing much with MB or C4D... or any other 3d for the next few weeks - maybe even months though....
The reason?
YESTERDAY I became a Daddy for the first time!!!!!!!
... and someone told me that being a father is going to take some of time time:)
Yesterday Susy was born weighting 6 pounds 10 ounces. Beautiful healthy baby girl!!!
so, I leave you with these great news! I'll log on once in a while, but I'm sure I won't be posting anything in the near future.
beaming with joy...
