Title: Mischievous
Name: David Mulnix
Country: USA
Software: Painter, Photoshop

Is this devilish lass evil, merely mischievous, or something else entirely? It is easy to judge her flesh, but her true nature can only be found within her heart and soul.

This image took me forever to complete.... and I'm still really not sure its totally done... but I've given it as much attention as I can for now. I might pick it back up later. Mostly done in Painter X with a bit of Photoshop thrown in towards the end. I still havent figured out how to blend the way I'd like to in the final stages within Painter and had to jump back to Photoshop for final skin tone blending.

As always I learned a lot with this image, as I always do with each piece. I was trying to improve my understanding of dynamic lighting, planes, landscaping, composition, color blending, and the list goes on. As you can tell I still have a lot to learn. :D

I like the figure :) Did you use any reference because the shading is nearly perfect.

Glad you enjoyed it. Multiple references were used for the figure. Some of the images did not have the correct lighting. The result is that half the lighting on the figure is guess work by me, for the other 50% of it I tried to match the lighting up to existing references that had similar lighting conditions.

The model and the lighting are great! I think the lava could be a little more detailed, but still great!

Thanks. The figure is of Aimee a local model, who will appear in some of my future works. If you have any suggestions on improving the lava let me know. I'd be happy to rework it if I could figure out how to improve it.

I think this final version came out excellent, David! The face and hair work seamlessly, in my opinion. Skin tones and lighting really glow. Great job! :)

hey David this is really sweet work, like others mentioned i really like the treatment of the flesh. i do have a humble opinion - if there were horns on her head, you know those pointy little red rascals that would have added more flare into the overall paint :) but this is strictly my persoanl opinion, nice work man :)

Thanks Phoenix. I had thought about doing that but the angle of her head made me question it. I wasnt sure if I could pull it off and make it look right as I think (but could be wrong) that the horns would have more of a circular look at that angle and would appear to be more flat, and therefore it might be harder to tell what they are. But that is just the way I'm visioning it, I'm sure someone else might come up with something that looked correct. At the moment I just cant picture it.

In any event I do appreciate the compliments and the feedback.

Fantastic work!

What I like most about this is that the lava, fire, tail, lighting, the angle of the head and the overall redness all meant to give the viewer a sense of evilness thats coming from the character. But somehow she still doesn't seem very threatning. She still looks relatively cute and harmless, which is what makes her even more dangerous. Very cool.

I especially like the lighting on her hands, feet and face.
