Thanks....
They're all done on bristol board with LOTS of Prismacolor pencils...some markers...acrylic washes...and um...I think that's it.
There's bunches more....I was...and guess I still am...an illustrator too....before I did the CGI stuff....
like I said...I miss it...but right now...the painted stuff isn't getting me any work.

JokerX-

That was amazingly rude. I hope you didn't intend to sound quite so... mean-spirited. If you did... well, that would be a shame.

ssava
05-07-2002, 06:21 PM
Well...I'm still working on issue 3....
Then there's issue 4....should be wrapped up by July.
Then...before the San Diego Comic Con...if there's time...I'd like to do another issue of the Lab....
After that...I have NO idea....
Marvel has mentioned other projects....but nothing solid until we see how the public reacts to the CGI Spidey....
Thanks for askin.

hey hey, those are great. the coloring in the x-men pin-ups seems i little bit pale, but the others are just perfect. the first and the last are my favourites. seems like you did then in diferent times(since the first one looks like more perfect than the others). i love to watch the artists progress by watching their art.

It MAY be because I scanned in the actual cards for those Xmen pics...and not the originals like the others...don't know.
But glad you liked em.

for example is airbrush essential to work as Drew?
and about ur way of draw?
which is ur idea about modern art in general? Now peaole are discovering artist as rockwell and they seem s to have dignity in front of great artists
:scream:

ssava
05-09-2002, 01:45 AM
I don't think airbrush is essential...
The MOST important thing is actually....
Good photo reference!
I found when I first started doing Star Trek covers....my paintings got significantly better when I had better photoreference...
THis of course is due to trying to get the likeness of actors....
If you can get a nice tight pencil drawing down...
Then it's just a matter of whatever materials you feel comfortable with....
I think Drew uses Acrylic washes for the most part...then finishes up with Colored pencils and airbrush
I like to use colored pencils...markers (to blend the pencils) and acrylic washes....

Modern art though..is just a broad term....
I was an illustration major in college....and we studied Rockwell...NC Wyeth...and all those guys...that's just great stuff....
I think contemporary masters are Drew Struzan....Frank Frazetta....maybe even in a few years....Alex Ross....

Again...good use of photo reference though....

alex ross rules my world, err, some of it at least.

ssava
05-10-2002, 01:07 AM
Yeah...Alex is da bomb...

As for the illustration/comic question....
I like them both....
ONe...you try to tell a story in one picture...
Another...you tell a story in a whole book....
They're both fun....

Well I can't believe this thread lasted so long...so I'll add some more pics.....
