View Full Version : setKeyframe with stepped tangent before key
InDOOM 06-26-2003, 06:47 PM Hi
I`m trying to make shelf button for some action, and I need make keyframe with stepped tangent. As I rode in Maya manual, for tangent is two flags -itt and -ott, and I actually need -inTangentType step, but // Warning: Cannot set in-tangents to step. Use spline, clamped, linear or flat. //
, as I see in graph editor there is one stepped tangent, but it makes stepped After keyframe. So I can use only -ott step ?
Should I use findKeyframe -which previous and keyTangent for this little task? Or there is another simpler way how to make keyframe with mel so that stepped tangent is before keyframe?
:hmm:
thank you

Hey InDOOM,
As far as I know and I could be really really wrong on this one, Stepped basically snaps to whatever value is keyed at that time. So if you wanted to set a keyframe on ScaleX=5 at 10 frames, then when you make it stepped, it would snap to ScaleX=5 at 10, now if you wanted it to rather do that at frame 1, then you keyframe ScaleX=5 at frame 1. It's really straight forward. The reason there is no out-tangent and in-tangent, is because it's stepped. It makes no sense to have an ease in and out. It changes values at exactly one specified frame, so you cant ease-in or out.
Hope you this helps you

I think LOKED answered this, although I couldn' t really understand his reply very clearly... Basically, there is no `-itt step`. It doesn't exist... and even if it existed, it would be pointless. `-ott step` holds the value of the current key until the next keyframe, at which point the value changes immeditately ("steps" mto the next value). I don't understand why this is a problem for you....(?)

BTW, we should have a "Scariest Avatar Contest", don't you agree?

wel, the idea is, I make a button or shelf button, and when I pres it I make keyframe at current time, but it already need to be stepped, meaning that previous keyframe already need to have -ott step.
But looks like I will need to do it manualy. it`s not so bad, just thought I could make things to do faster.
Too bad i`m not a programmer :banghead:
well, thanks for replies ;)
btw, "Scariest Avatar Contest" is a good idea :D
