Hi folks!

I have tried using IK lately, for Character Animation, using the figure primitive for animation excercise. When I convert this figure into a polygoin Object, it is setup for animation with IK tags.

This is all well and nice for my uses, since I am very newbie to IK animation, and can test my abilities on it.

However, I can't seem to stop his feet from sliding when making a walkcycle, and also I can't get him to bend properly. I now understand that I will have to set up my own rig to get him to bend at the knees and so on, when I move his joints about, for exampkle into a squat.

Are there any GREAT rigging tutorials for Cinema that you people know about, that shows the tips and the tricks needed to do good IK-rigging?

Im posting this in the animation forum as well!

Thanks!

Check the NAAM's site, there u can find a COFFEE expression that can solve your problem!

If you have the MOCCA module you can get far on making your own rig by following the mime tutorial in the manual. Also check out Cactus Dans elaboration of it at creative cow.

MOCCA tutorial (http://www.creativecow.net/articles/libisch_dan/soft_IK/index.html)

Hope this helps. They got me started on basic rigging.

At c4d-treff they show a nice way to use posemixer for animating a hand.

posemixer (http://www.c4d-treff.de/tutorials/first_steps_with_oxygen/srek/posemixer.htm)

and at the linksammlung >> animation section here (http://www.c4d-treff.de/tutorials/) there are a bunch of useful tips and tricks

Have you looked at the learning to walk thread? there are a few really great examples of rigging there (including my own of course).

Yeah MOCCA is a mixed bag. I only use it for secondary motion. Like tails, bellies, butts, antennae etc.

You should also try and read tutorials on the subject on how other programs like LW 3dstudio and Maya are doing it. You can pull off most of that stuff in Cinema...

WOW!
Thanks!

I'm gonna check all these tips out.

Be on the lookout for a guy on two legs from me, in the next weeks..

Hi guys!

a couple of quick questions..

Where is the learning to walk thread?

in naams tutorial, on IK setup, what does he mean when he says to link up two objects? More specifiacally this phrase:

Next add a null object to the scene, go to functions->transfer, fill in L foot, and turn all options on, and hit OK. This places the null in the exact position as where the foot is currently located. Link this null object to the spline shape. Call the spline 'L FOOT' and the null '+L foot'. You should have something like this:

Thanks again, this is a new world for me, to understand IK :)

chrleon: In NAAM's tut, what you're doing is add a null to your scene. It just kinda plops in the middle. Then, while it's still selected. go to Transfer (I forget which menu it's under!) then you can type in exactly where you want it. Type in the name of the bone you want it to be on. Perfect for IK stuff.

thanks bobzilla, but that wasn't what I meant, probably stuopid of me to paste the whole paragrapgh, when I was just wondering what this meant in his tutorial. It's the linking part i'm not too sure about..

Sorry about that...I think he just means drop the null in the FOOT spline so the FOOT spline drives the null. In R8, you can use a null instead of a spline, and choose a shape and color for it.

I hope I got it right this time...:-0

thanks! That was fast..

I tried it before your post, and then understood that was what he meant!

I'm in IK heaven :)

Thanks all!

FYI...The Set Null Object plugin is also very useful. It's free and I believe it's on Maxon's site.
