I am trying to figure out how to build a small renderfarm with 3 or 4 machines using maya5 on Mac OSX, I have no experience with this can someone please help me figure this out, or at least give some advice.

Thanks in advance.

Alas... there are no really decent render queue managers for OS X - most have clients for osx but no gui for managing the renders...

you can certainly do it by hand - which for 3 or 4 machines really isn't horrible.

OR, if you are getting Shake 3 from apple, it will come w/ Qmaster which is a rendezvous based net render manager which WILL also work w/ maya.

zero config setup... pretty spiffy.

Unfortunately that doesn't solve your problem, does it? I haven't found any managers for OS X, but I would love to be proven wrong.

I believe there is an open source manager for linux being made that could perhaps be compiled under OS X and run w/ X11 installed... hmm...

sorry, no help from me! :(

go to http://www.liquiddreamsolutions.com

get the 5 client pack for $150

pick up a cheap PC to run it on and use the OSX client (paul has a GUI version of the OSX client almost done)

install BNR and use either the SMB sharing from the PC or from one of your osx boxes as the central file/render location.

leave PC in a corner and forget about it. using RDC (from microsoft and free) or VNC to remotely log into the PC if you need to access it or change the BNR server settings.

render away...

The best rendermanager that runs on all platforms(including osx) in my opinion:
http://seriss.com/rush/

If you know a little c$/bash scripting, you could easily setup some simple shell scripts for sending out renders to your multiple machines.

it is a nice and very powerful rendermanager - a little on the expensive side for a small farm though... but it is osx now (haven't looked in a while) which is nice.
