HI there,

this is quite often question around the forums, but this is a bit different. I would like a character pick up something (doesnt matter what it is now... ) small by its fingers. How to do it?

So, I have FK for animating, IK for contact with rigid stuffs and placing hand, but what about fingers? Another "little" IKs for each finger for good holding, or animate finger-holding by FK (it will be less precise... ) ?

Thanks for any advices

how about trying to set up some IK/FK switching on those little fingers too? FK is fine as it is! you are not recreating real life, you are creating an aristic impression of real life - otherwise, why don't you just film it?

for the "pickup" I'd set up position and aim constraints that can be turned on/off...

Not sure if this is waht you mean but why not animate finger stuff in FK and do then do the old switch-a-roo*

Seems the easiest way most times...

*Switch-a-roo
1) at point of contact duplicate and parent 2nd object to finger(s)
2) over 1 frame animate visability of 1st object off and second object on
