hey!!
i was mapping my low poly model last night when i came upon this problem.

i was mapping the characters arm, then when i had all the uv's laid out i couldn't tell where the muscle structure was.

is there any way to somehow colour code the faces so that i can tell which ones are which when painting in photoshop?

i have seen pics of people with colour coded uv layouts for texturing game models do there must be a technique that is used for doing this?

a work around i found was to map it. then paint on it using the 3dPaint tool.then exporting that texture and overlaying it on the uv's, but this seems like a long way of doing things.

anybody know a better workflow for this?
cheers!!

You'd be interested in :

Edit Polygons > Colors > Paint Vertex Color Tool > .

Then export the map...no need to remap.

I've never done this in practice ...but I think you could use "convert to solid texture" to bake shading information into your Uv-snapshot. You could have shading, shadows, textures projected into UV space and get a shaded snapshot instead of the boring wireframe.

I don't know if this will work with lowpoly stuff, since they usually lack detail for proper shading.

It should work.... I think .....

hey!!
thaks for the reply's guys

BigSky: i couldn't get this to work. from what i gathered this option only has to do with pre-lighting your model for a scene?

Arne: i'll give that a try tonight.

cheers!!
