I tried a new style and came up with 5 characters one night and had my girlfriend watercolor them. We've received alot of good remarks but I wanted to post them here on CGTalk to get some real feedback. Some of them are a little graphic in nature and we also have poems that go with each character to explain how they got to this point in the life.

If for some reason the image doesn't show (which I'm afraid it might not) you can visit our site and go to my "Odds & Ends" section to see them.

Danielle awoke in the dark of the night
shaken and gripping her covers tight
she went to the kitchen to get a drink
and saw the knife lying next to the sink
the voices erupted inside of her head
"Just one quick stab and we'll all be dead!"
she decided she'd rather be deaf, dumb and blind
than let them continue to rule her mind

Billy sat useless locked up in his room
worried when it might become his tomb
for a week without water or food he subsisted
to his parents it seemed he had never existed
one day in the grip of a horrible fever
the skin on his arm had never looked sweeter
he wondered what his parents had eaten that night
and wished himself with them as he took the first bite

Kelly had always been His faithful servant
her belief in His ultimate wisdom was fervent
but she hated to read the news in the paper
and decided the God-fearing were no safer
murderers, rapists, your mom or your brother
each as unhappy and lost as the other
she decided she'd make it so she could not see
God's apparent toleration of atrocity

Fatherís treatment of Timmy had been a crime
Ignored the entirety of his short lifetime
Timmyíd threatened repeatedly to end it all
But nobody thought he would have the gall
One day the children were on the playground
when they noticed Timmy was nowhere to be found
Father said, ďDonít you worry, itís just one of his ploys-
he must be in the attic. Boys will be boys."

Jon's bladder had always been hard to control
and the waiting had finally taken its toll
the Teacher said "Jon, you've already been"
when he noticed he'd soiled his pants again
and decided to finally make her pay
for causing another difficult day

Please let me know what you think of them. I'm sorry I couldn't host them from my website, tripod doesn't allow you to host images unless you pay...and I have other things to worry about :)

Well, as far as drawing and design I think they have a very unique style of being drawn and colors, and they look very real when it comes to "gore", very shocking for being hand made..

As far as feelings, man I felt your deep depression with that, you sure know how to express yourself with the poems and the drawings, I think it would be very pleasing to see any positive things on those, like a nice poem of something positive and a nice picture too, since negative stuff is not really what you would like to see, but well I understand that we show our feelings thru our art and I respect that.

Great work mate!, It would be very good if you had high-resolution scans of those pictures, so you could re-touch the colors using photoshop or painter.

Carlos.

The original sketch was only about 4 inches high but my girlfriend scanned them in, blew them up, printed them on 11 x 17 watercolor stock and painted them. I then scanned those in on a large format scanner here at my job and used those to make the promotional pieces and jpegs that I needed.

They are all framed and I tried selling them once at a goth/industrial event here in Philly. Everyone liked the hanging kid Timmy, but no one had money with them to buy any of them.

I had an idea to tie them all together but it fell to the side when I decided to start learning after effects and moved on with my art. I didn't want to overuse that style in fear that the original 5 pieces wouldn't have that "original" feel.

Thanks for all your comments though, I can post higher res images on my site tonight and post links to them if you wanted to see better detail.

Please post another high res version. I think they look very good, the style is highly appealing and the poems are very cool!
I really like them! The colors are also very well balanced, thankgod not too bright and toony. The watercolored "texture" gives them a more eery feeling

Btw, did u make up the poems urself? They are very very good!

I'm at work right now and don't have access to the files.

The poems were written by my friend Melissa Hay. I had some rough ideas for the direction of the poems and she wrote them for us. I was extremely happy with them and she didn't get too mad when we wanted changes made.

A couple people have told me how much they like the hands on the kids. One girl called them "chunks of meat". I have some other art similar to that on my site: http://snapthewhip.tripod.com click on my picture and browse through digital, pen & ink and sketches to see some more.

I would have posted them last night but we went out to a Einsturzende Neubauten tribute night in Philly and didn't get in till 2:00.

If you want me to upload any other character let me know.

it appears they won't let me show the files unless I nest them in a .swf.

I apologize for the bad links, I'll rectify the situation soon.

Unfortunately lycos blocks any type of image file from being viewed, but using a pdf bypasses their security.

So here are 2 larger versions of jonathon and kelly.

Jonathon (http://snapthewhip.tripod.com/jhres.pdf)

Kelly (http://snapthewhip.tripod.com/khres.pdf)

Thanks,

Tell you what, copy these links into a new browser window and you can see them.
At this rate I should just buy my own domain.
