Maya – Zbrush – Phototshop – Nuke - Vue

This is a personal image I have been working on to for my portfolio and hopefully help me get more work. It was inspired after Steven Kings “Gun Slinger” series.
It's more of a 3d environment then a traditional Matte Painting, but I always get such geat comments from the people here I wanted to post here as well. The tower is constructed with simple geometry cubes and cylinders, I used alpha mask to cut out the silhouette of the construction. The cranes and scaffolding are planes with alpha mask. I modeled the terrain in Maya and used Zbrush to sculpted it and to generate normal maps. I render out several pass from Maya (beauty, depth, reflection, lights) the sky is a custom Vue sky with a Phototshop paint over.
Comped using Nuke.
I look forward to everyone critiques, I feel that I'm really close to having a great image but I'm missing something still.

I like the way you modelled the buildings very very detailed. The clouds are not helping the overall image thouhg, its too blurred and noisy. But still overall all a great concpet and image

I like the building too and also the enviroment is modeled very well.
If you dont mind here my ideas to your image.
You should replace the sky.
There are many images on the web that could help you like...
http://www.cgtextures.com/ search for sky and landscapes or...
http://www.openfootage.net/?cat=17 ( which is not availible at the moment)
You could add some rocks like on the right( the big ones), to the left and mirror them , so you get the feeling the rocks want to "eat" the building.

Thanks for all of the great feedback. I here is an update of the image, the sky has been reworked and has improved the image ten fold. I also added more rim light to the rocks on the left and tweaked the over all silhouette of the terrain. I also rendered out a camera move for the environment and made a small demo reel for the piece that includes breakdowns.

In the still image I was worried about the sky and clouds but after watching the camera move it sells it, really impressed thanks for sharing

Thanks guys, I'm glad you like the image. I think I'm going to add some more detial and features to the rock to try to fix the scale a little.
The field of rose might be my next one.
Cheers Ryan
