View Full Version : Texturing: Looking for a specific checkerboard map.
ntmonkey 06-25-2003, 08:20 PM Hi all,
Would anyone here know where I can find a particular checkerboard map? It looks like a regular checkerboard, but has colors mapped to it as well as numbers so you can see if you're losing detail. I remember seeing it awhile back. I would greatly appreciate it if anyone could send me that link to that map.
Thanks,
Lu

Here's one I created. I like the colors.

A/W have a few on their site.

Thank you so much, Posm. I love the map that you made. BTW, what is the purpose of the larger letters?

Glad it helps.
The letters help me find where I am in the map when I am looking at a portion of it on a surface.

Does it matter how big you model is or should I just scale the placement map to fit?

The grid image has nothing to do with modeling, if that's what you're asking.
The image helps when creating UV texture coordinates. I use the image to help me remove distortions from the UVs, to help line up UVs across UV seams, and to help maintain an even pixel density across the model.
As far as removing distortion goes, it does help to tile the texture a few times, to make the grid smaller on the model. In 3ds max I do this via material settings, so I don't have to edit the image, nor adjust the actual UVs.
Hope that helps.
