step one
i only produced 1 sketch...didnt give myself alot of time so it was just to confirm what i wanted to build
victor throe
07-02-2003, 11:54 AM
step 2
shoot the action
the auto exposure made it look really 'crap' but i thought id leave it rather than re doing it as it would make the compositing a bit more interesting
victor throe
07-02-2003, 11:55 AM
step 3
shoot the plate
victor throe
07-02-2003, 11:59 AM
step 4
shot a bit of reference footage of a metal item
victor throe
07-02-2003, 12:01 PM
step 5
shot some footage of a shadow for reference
victor throe
07-02-2003, 12:09 PM
step 6
i took a load of measurements from the cupboard
and the distance from the lens and rebuilt a very simple version of it it the 3d package
aligned everything up according to my measurements....made a few adjustments because i didnt do it very accurately and applied the plate footage to the objects as a camera map

step 7
build the robot
basic box modelling
give it the basic for the texture but allowed for tweaking once id put it in the scene

victor throe
07-02-2003, 12:27 PM
here are daves elements
i rendered the eyes out seperately to get the glow in post
victor throe
07-02-2003, 12:29 PM
i didnt really do alot in post
added a little noise to match the grainyness of the dv footage
blurred a little
fixed a couple of errors i made in the render
then roto'd out the live action person
technical info:
footage shot on a canon xl1s
3d in max
compositing in afx
Everyone is thinking creepy and you're going for cute. I like very much, it's very believable anf the animation is great. You'd might like to try turning up the brightness, when checking your final render. The robot show up on top of the actor (you?) for a brief second. But very nice, indeed! :applause:

no
its not me.......
ive just gone through frame by frame....it doesnt appear to be in front of the person in any frames
wierd
its not that creepy.....look at those lovely baby blue eyes
Victor, if you look at the picture I've attached you'll see the robot in front of the character...I upped the levels on the pic, but the same thing is noticable when brightness is manipulated...it's not a big thing, but I noticed it in my first viewing.

aah yes
i was sloppy and thought it wouldnt be noticable for those frames

Nice nice! That was great!
Not much to crit here ...well the hand waving at the end is a bit overacted :)
...but it surely was nice, the robot looks very real.

Hey, Victor:
Noticed that you aren't listed as an official entry on the main Challenge page. Have you tried talking to Lil'Dragon or another moderator to get you up there? You definitely need to have your final stuff seen by folks, it's great.
That and without you there's only 3 final entries.
Good luck!

how do i get on the list?
RobertoOrtiz
07-16-2003, 10:05 PM
technically speaking you had to setup an entry
before the challenge.
I would contact an admin an ask them for an exception from this rule, since you finished your work before the dateline.

That's the official entry spot. I'd strongly suggest talking to the mods/admins about getting on there. This is too good to be missed on a technicality!!
