Doing a character design. I'm modeling her and eventually posing her in a series of shots.

Here's the initial design sketch (http://xenoflare.virtualave.net/misc/designs.jpg)...

As you can see it's mainly the helmet, her armor, her flying thing, and her boots that are highly mechanized. Everything else is just left out.

The long wing thingies have boosters on the "edge" and she can fly around with those.

I haven't given her a weapon yet. A sword seems typical (designed a lightning sword a while back, might consider using that, check out the
laser/lightning swords... (http://xenoflare.virtualave.net/misc/sktch01b.jpg))

Various designs for her head gear (http://xenoflare.virtualave.net/misc/headgears.jpg)

Final head gear design... (http://xenoflare.virtualave.net/misc/headgearE.jpg)

Quickly modeled a head to fit into the helmet. She's looking asian. I'm not too concerned about the face because it's going to be mostly covered up. Still want to work on it though. Did the head in roughly 4 hours. Low poly still~

Began modeling the helmet. I SUCK at mechanical modeling so I need some help. I have a hard time making things look mechanical, especially when they are curved as well.... the symmetry... etc

Still highly WIP and lot of designs to be done.

eek!

Some background story....

The game is a third person shooter. The player controls the character named Evanti at a distance. The game's objective is to survive while battling multiple opponents or single duels, driven by a deep and rich story.

(please bear with the BS ad libbing story)

The year 8998 AD, mankind has travelled to the ends of the galaxy only to find no life anywhere. It is determined that man-kind and their machines are the only "intelligent" life form in the universe.

Until, one fateful day on 8998 AD a turbulent force opened up a gateway near the center of our galaxy and in came a flood of "alien" spacecrafts that have come to consume every star. As the beginning of the story unfolds, theses "aliens" are human beings but from another dimension, another reality, existence.

The main character, named Evanti is one of these invaders. She is a warrior from the fleet that entered the galaxy with vastly superior weaponry. The player participates in her first engagings with our civilization, then her eventual realization that our civilzation has retained something other dimensional civilizations have not, love. (yes sappy!) It was something that was lost in her civilization long ago as her own dimension was destroyed. She fights now to protect our galaxy, battling her way through space crafts, futuristic cityscapes, space, in death defying melee combat (technology from her civilization nullifies any ranged attack!).

So yeah. That's her story. Now back to more modeling~~

Modified the top to reflect the drawing better.

Gonna be hell adding in details later because my mesh isn't very clean...

I like your sketchs and idea.

The model is off to a good start but the visor might need some more polys to make it a bit smoother.

Could luck with the challange, youve come in with not much time eft!

Thanks~~~ I like Futurama too :)

Yeah.. :( unfortunately I have to pull a quickie. I think I can pull it off though... just gotta focus~~~

Any more suggestions on the visor? How are mechanical things normally modeled? Do people use Sub-Ds to model mechanical things as well? Or do they use smoothing groups?

Here's the body blocked out...

I think I'm just going to model on the gear without making a full naked body. Not sure which approach is better.

Oh btw her anatomy is very stylized for the elegant look I'm going for.

more work on the body.

Going to sleep now. Gonna design the rest of her clothes/armor tomorrow so I can start modeling those too. Comments and suggestions highly welcome.

Another Southern Cali guy here huh? Nice to see you here, welcome.

It would be best actually to model her than the armor etc,etc...it's good practice to do this down the line, but due to time constarints I can see your point.

Nice sketch/concept,as you say elegant and a bit surreal.I'll take more peeks at your progress as time goes by.Looks to have promise.Have fun mFlux. And welcome to the Boards and the Challenge.

Thanks Virtuoso =) yes another socali guy~~ thanks for the welcome!!

I've modeled human bodies a couple of times so I know fairly well the ins and outs of doing so, so as a practice it's not really really needed. But I see your point, and actually I've found myself improving my technique this time around so I'm going to model her body before the outfit. I'm just going to have hell of a time fitting it onto her. Always had trouble with that.

Thanks again~

Here's progress on the body mesh
