View Full Version : Reversing Specific Animation
gopherCG 06-25-2003, 08:40 AM I've heard the post/video editing way, but is it possible to reverse all animation under a hierarchy node w/o changing any timing relations?
The only thing in the help file close enough was "Reverse time" function of trackview/graph editor. This helps many of my objects. But how about particles?
I'm doing a scene with time-lapse animation going backwards. I figured the animation would look more natural if I animated it as time passes foreward, and later reverse the whole animation.

Not quite sure but couldn't you use a Block Controller for that ? Never used it myself but i remember of a (timelapse) video showing how to use Master Block Controller over an animation to be able to manipulate the animation as a sort of a "clip" that you could then reverse, extend and so on...

it can get buggy but if you want to actually reverse a particle system you can do so by making a copy of it via a mesh object and then applying a point cache modifier ontop of the mesher object and setting the recording options in reverse and then using the point cache modifier to run the mesher object.

One way is to use the Ping-Pong feature in the "Time" rollout
in the material editor.
Create an new scene with a Camera and a Plane object.
Set the time configuration to twice as the original length.
Then make a material with your original animation in the
diffuse slot, go to the time rollout and set it to ping pong.
Set Self illumination to 100% and apply to the plane object.
Now render the second half of the animation, using the
camera and the plane object as a cinema.

Block controller? That sound interesting, especially the clip thing, which should make complex animation easier to move around. I'll try that, if I can find where it is. thanks.
The cache mod seems good, except definitely a last resort.
I'll try all these. Maybe I could do the video way... have the complex anims go forward and reverse the simpler anims, render and reverse the video.
