"This is the third time I have tried to create this message. I am new to this and the right words have eluded me.

On Sunday evening, my brother, dandavis (dano) lost his life in an automobile accident.

I was aware that this community came in a close second right behind his family and thought his friends here deserved to know.

Keep him in your hearts, you were in his.

Thanks.

Douglas"

I'm glad we got to know him through his work and his posts which were always friendly and thoughtful.

Seeing his and ohers' photo in the "How Old" thread helped me feel like I was talking to real people.

This makes the tragic news all the more shocking. My condolences to Dan's Wife, Brother and family. His robots were very inspiring to me.

Having just miraculously survived a car accident in France, reading this makes me revive those moments. It goes so fast...

I am very sad to have to read this. He was indeed one of us, the creative family and he will be missed a lot.

My thoughts also go to you, his brother and everyone who personally knew him. May time heal your wounds and may he live in your memories as he will in ours.

being new here I never had the chance to exchange w him, although i had run across his volumetric light study and was certainly impressed w his skill level, always a shame when anyones life is cut short in a tragic accident, made me pause and reflect at how little time we have on this orb. Dano may God have a fresh copy of C4D waiting for you m8, and my condolences to your family during these tragic times. Bp+

Its a GD shame! I didn't know him much either save through his artwork. Which reminds me, its even more of a GD shame the his Rosity gallery has been cleaned. That pisses me off to know ends!

I spoke with Dan very often. He told me once that he regularly cleaned out his own gallery as sort of an artistic cleansing. He may have cleaned it out on his own just before his passing. Don't know if that's really the case here or not.

I sure will miss him.

This was an incredibly shocking bit of news to wake up to this morning. So often going to various forums one just sees names and avatars......the real people behind them become just a enigma of reality......you get used to them being "electronic" people. It is a testament to one's presence the effect one has on a community of "strangers" when something like this happens. I suddenly felt very saddened and my heart was burdened. I will keep your memory alive Dano and will with all my heart and spirit try to maintain the standards by which everyone here has been attributing you....friendliness, merit, helpfulness, just all around good guy and great artist. God speed and bless you and your family.

I haven't been around here for long enough to know who this is - but nevertheless it is always a total tragedy when people pass away that way, without having grown really old yet.
Very sad news indeed...

To the C4D community and Dan's family:

I believe it is safe to say that all of our posts fall short of expressing our sense of loss and appreciation for Dan's life and work. They are only words - and yet... in this media, words are really all we have. So I pray these words will provide a moment of peace and comfort in an otherwise terribly difficult moment.

To his family, and to this great C4D family, peace be with you.

It's already sticky, it will be sticky for a while and i think it's enough. It'd be useless to have it there forever, and i guess that after some time nobody would pay attention to it anymore, which would mean a great lack of respect. Let me know what you others think.

Per-Anders
06-28-2003, 07:29 PM
I think that:

While it's respectful to remember, we shouldn't dwell and keep a morbid atmosphere here, after all I think that he came accross as anything but a morbid person, anything but.

So i think it would be better if we as artists were to be creative about this, and instead make works that are testaments to Dan. Works inspired by his works and life. Works to the memory of Dan. Lets instead of lingering on the death celebrate the life. Something positive, like he was.

I hope I have not come accross as offensive at all to anyone here. It's very hard to discuss these things, I guess my sentiments are those hardwired into me from being from a line of artists.

JIII
06-29-2003, 12:18 AM
Keep the thread sticky for 2 weeks from the time it as posted. This is the standard time for flags to be lowered. I think this is the same kind of situation.

miketche
06-29-2003, 01:01 AM
Agreed, I don't think Dan would have wanted us to dwell on this forever. He would have wanted us to move on and be as creative and artistic as we can be.

It certainly is a great loss. Dan and I talked all the time. I have a great emptiness in me. But we all need to move on.

Oh God! I am so sorry. I admired Dan greatly for his easygoing and friendly character, and I always enjoyed hearing from him. It's weird how you can come to know someone so well just through the internet, and be so saddened at their loss. Dan was a really great guy. We all lost a good friend.

God speed and best regards.
