Hey guys
Due to popular demand, speed modelling challenges are back. I dont know for how long, but I am definitely in for hosting a few over the next several weeks.
The first one will be fun. The idea behind the first challenge is to make a custom “Potatoe Head”. The way we will do this is by making quick studies of body parts, and when we are finished, we could share some assets with the community using the attach function in the forum, or uploading them to your own server and sharing a link to the asset. then at the end of the challenge if we have enough participants people could download a few parts and start combining them for some funny collages/ assemblies of sorts.
So, the challenge for the next week or so ( I will extend this if need be ) will be to create studies of human parts. Create noses, ears, eyes, fingers, hands, feet, etc, etc. Try to make sure that they are water tight, so that when people combine these parts, that there are no holes in the model. ( for extra fun, you could model them as if they were a real part for a toy. Joints and all )
You could do things like model a nose and make a series of multiple ages or noses from different sexes, to try to get a number of variations into the mix. There is a lot of subtlety that changes the forms of all of our parts, so be creative!.
In case you have been living in a cave, here is a few examples of what Mr. Potato head looks like:
http://coppola.rsmart.com/files/u2/potato_2.gif
RULES FOR CURRENT CHALLENGE:
Create realistic studies of small sections of the human anatomy. ( eyes, nose, ears, feet, etc. )
The time limit on each body part will be 1.5 hours, so use your time efficiently.
You will be able to create multiple parts, or multiple variations of the model part that you created.
Model what you feel that you need practice on, nothing is off limits, including parts where the sun don’t shine.
I want everyone to post within this thead. making too many threads will offset and complicate this forum a bit too much with the other challenges that people have going right now.
Have fun, and try to learn.!
Side Notes:
Use What applications you like, Including Zbrush, but if you plan on sharing your asset, try to make it something that is easily shareable/manageable. What i mean by this is that it should be a small file size/ polycount. It will keep things easy for everyone.
If anyone has the opportunity and the means, I would suggest for people to try to record their process and perhaps get their process onto youtube. This way we can see you work :) and see how you meet certain challenges. Its just a suggestion
IDEAS FOR FUTURE CHALLENGES:
here is what should be possible with the Mr. Potato head concept.. I am thinking that the next challenge will involve the same concept but instead of human parts, we could work up starwars character parts. light sabers, helmets, guns, etc. It will change the theme a bit, allow us to model hardware, and then make funny assemblies :D hope that enough people will be into this so we could pull this off :D after that, we could do things like model parts for motorcycles, and try to assemble parts for those, into our own flavors of vehicles. If this challenge proves successful, and the community would want to continue this flavor of challenges that is. Stuff like this, but perhaps more realistic and refined:

GOOD LUCK!
