View Full Version : Day for Night

I am looking for any advice on how best to achieve a day for night look.
If you know of any good tutorials, that will be appreciated as well.

What program are you using? I've personally done this effect in C2 and it really does a great job so if you are using C2 you should do fine.

Yes, I am using Combustion 2.1. If you have any pointers as to how best to achieve that, I would be immensely grateful.

Well essentially todd4cgi it's just a case of playing around with the settings when it comes to things like:
Discreet Colour Correcter
Levels
Brightness\Contrast

Especially the Colour Corrector, I tweaked that until I got something desirable.

Sounds similar to a tutorial I just did from the Courseware book.

You take a keyed woman, who appears to be lit by soft indoor lighting, and match it to an outdoor sunlit scene. So, it's like taking that and going in the opposite direction with the background image.

As I work through the tutorials I really get to see how powerful C* is. I've worked with After Effects, but I really like the interface for C* much more so. And Combustion is comparable to AE Production Bundle. Plus, C* comes with a ton of editable particle effects.

Although it's nice that After Effects 6.0 comes with "Keylight". An Ultimatte-type plug-in that is supposed to be very powerful and easy to use. But, you still have to learn how to work with bad blue/greenscreen. Ya gotta love C*. I do. :)

Damn straight Im right there with you.
Ive been with C* for a while now since C1.0 and the interface Im still in love with. As for AE Ive just recently acquired it and finding the GUI rather cramped and shitty compared to good 'ol Combustion.

Discreet has proven with Combustion that you can have all the controls you need in the lower half of the screen, leaving the top half open to all your viewing needs.

If you look at the buttons in all the control panels they are a pretty good size. Which means, in future incarnations they can easily add more controls, bells and whistles, and shrink the buttons a bit and still have room to grow.

I love the Adobe palettes for Photoshop. They work for that program. But, in After Effects, all those palettes and windows gets a bit overwhelming at times. Which is funny because you know how a lot of companies are mimicing the Adobe palettes (i.e. Flash MX, etc.). Soon Adobe might find itself mimicing Combustion's interface. They should. haha
