View Full Version : Character: Link
Carny 06-24-2003, 01:34 PM Well, it started with a warm-up modeling after a vacation.. but it developed better then expected. So I dicided to model the body and the rest.
Some of you may say "Hey, that ain't the Face I am used to!". Sure, but the hair and the hat does a lot for the look-like-Link-look and after finishing the body I will overwork the head for a more fitting look.
I dicided to chose a kind of hyperreal look (I hope it goes in that direcetion someway).
c&c welcome!
Here we go:

Yeah, the hair's gonna really add. And, depending on which Link you're going for (which legend of zelda game), He has different default expressions. In Ocarina of Time he has more of a stern face, kinda mad. In Wind Waker (yes, I know you're going for the realistic look, but I'm just saying what his expression is) his default expression is more relaxed... kind of like he's accepting what's going on, but knows he can take it. In the others, you really can't tell... but I'd go for the relaxed with those. With this more realistic model, I'd suggest going for the Ocarina look, but it's all your choice. I'm sure with this great model it wouldn't matter. You should go for a job somewhere if you don't already have one.
The model is superb. The wrinkle and all. I'd have to say I'd never get anywhere near that with my skills. Cheers!

:buttrock: Yea Carny!! 1337 them out!!!
I think he already has got kinda relaxed face expression... ok maybe a lil' too melancolic round the forehead. Hope It will be finished soon. But don't hurry man!!! Don't you!!!

In my opinion, I dont think his ears were ever that long but hey i dont remember them well. I'm nearing the end of The Windwaker, which, I must say, is the best Zelda game i've ever played... Can't wait to see more of Link!

excellent model carny, i think this distance is a bit too large i would move the ears forward a bit along with the jawline maybe....ull have to check references for that one...

there is something very weird about the head.. like it's a cross between a full-grown man's head from one angle and a young child's from another.
incredible model tho

I love this model, but i do think the head above the eyes is too large..IMO..can't wait to see more.. wireframes please...

I never played the N64 parts by myself, but I am a big fan of the SNES and the first GB part, so I don't know Nintendo's ingame-Link so good.
You made some good crits on the head. After I've done the body, I will go back to the head to fit it more to the overall look. Then I will work over the things you said.
@Lukashi: Thx! I'll note that.
@peanuckle: It is Zelda's Link, just not in Manga-sytle ;]

So, lil update. I poorly had not that much time.
ummm... I still don't like some areas. I think I gonna have to do a second overwork, after finishing all parts.

The lightning of the first two pics is from a tournaround-video, where I used moving cookies, so don't be bothered by the light shaddowspots.

:surprised I see Its growing! Yea the material looks a lil' glossy... But just as you said... nothing to wonder about.
The Arms are quite great. But I think the holes in the two buckles seem to be a lil too big. So it looks kinda instable.
And whats that on the hand? The thumb looks like not sewed perfectly. Like attached.
The straps aren't wrapped around yet?? .... aaaaaahhh!! Damn sorry Its a glove!! OK I see!
Hey keep it on, man! Just can't wait to see that boy in the gallery/finished tread :]
PS: Re-work would be welcome.. the more I look onto that eye-ear-distance-thing the more it becomes strange ;] But don't u hurry.. I know there is not much time... just like me

Amazing details..
however i can see that your sleeves and the main shirt piece are of different polys..
hmm... this makes things looks odd especially the folds and wrinkles of the clothings.. they just dun match and blend in nicely if u have totally different wrinkles there.. you get what i'm trying to sound out?
anyway, it's really an amazing model. Hope to see it progress.

i've worked a lot on wrinkles modeling and i can tell you that yours are great, the non-symetry is natural, really perfect...

jeeze that is increible, i cant belive you actually modeled all the ripples in the clothes, taht is a great model. just the renderings of his face alone look real, i mean his actual face. most peoples renderings i see with no textures that rarley occurs, but yours is dead on. great great model wow.

Hey, it´s a great model Carny! I´d really like to ask you:
"Do you animate this kind of model?"
I´m starting to working seriously on high quality models (my first model (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=84248) ) and I need this kind of information. Where I can go without get lost.
Inté,
Guilherme Lopes
man! it's incredibly detailed!
it's really realistic alright, amazing work!
He's a little old for Link, isn't he?

Wow, that is amazing! What's the polycount on it? Your work looks really good, but I'd suggest making the face a little rounder to more closely resemble Link. Otherwise, great stuff! Love the clothing and wrinkles. That must have taken an age to do. Keep the updates coming. :buttrock: :applause:

geez, kioku what did you do! ;P
I don't care so much about the backhead. I have to do hair anyway ;]
I was NOT able the last six weeks, cause I got some bad tendon and joint sickness in my Hands. I hope I can restart working on in in the next weeks. :/ And then i'll overwork the head and stuff.
Polycount... erm ways to much, sorry can't remember the count in the moment.

Cheesus! Gotta love that clothing... argh, do you have any special technique for making the wrinkles in the clothing?

very nice one thing that isnt important is some 5 sided polys just if you plan on animating him there could be a problem, but great modeling i like the cloth quit a bit
