View Full Version : Snap Move Gizmo...
Omita 06-24-2003, 12:03 PM How can I do this. I am editing the pivot point and I want to snap the Move Gizmo to a vertex. Is there a hotkey I can use.

Max has a full featured Snap toolbox, there should be a button toggling Snap on / off ("Snap Toggle"), if you right click on it it will bring up the "Grid and Snap settings" dialogue from where you can set up your snappings (and grids).
You can also bind them to hotkeys, both snap toggle and settings dialogue.
ps: don't you think this could be answered by the help files ? 'F1' is the key : )

The full featured snap toolbox that you mention doesn't do what Omita is asking - and no it can't be found in Help or the 300 other cgtalk answers I've trawled through.
the pivot in edit mode doesn't snap to vert - turn effect pivot only on and turn snap on (verts) and you'll see what I mean.

Hmm, funny, my full featured snap toolbox let me do that...
*Create a Box
*Go to Hierarchy, press Affect Pivot Only
*Right-click the Snap icon, set snaps to Pivot and Vertex
*Go to Move mode, move the mouse pointer to the Box, away from any vertices - it snaps to the Pivot.
*Press LMB and hold. Move the mouse to a vertex until it snaps - the Pivot moves with it and aligns to the vertex.
Note: In 3ds max 7, "Use Axis Constraints" must be unchecked in Grid and Snap Settings > Options tab, otherwise the snapping will be restricted by the active Axes of the move gizmo (like only XY, only Z etc.)
