Hey there,

Miguel Angelo Carvalho Bernardo Teixeira, or 'Malanjo' to his mates, pulled this creature out of a personal projects folder after two years. He has been hitting the jackpot with the community reaction to his work, with accolades in the CGChallenges, CGChoice Awards and selection into Ballistic books.

Here is his tutorial for 'The Special One'. DIGG and comment. Click image for the story.

Thank you very much! I especially like how you broke down your render passes and showed your lighting set up. Very informative, I have been wanting to get into using the Mental ray Fast SSS Shader, and this really inspires me. I do have one question, where can we find Mental ray skin shader from Jonas Thornqvist? Does he have it up somewhere? Thanks!

Nice work, but not really a tutorial. More like a breakdown.

There is a thread by Jonas, here in CGtalk with the shader. I can't find it, I will attach the shader in this post for future archive.

Thanks for your support and happy 2009,

Don't mean to ruin the party, but why did you made an original, based on an artwork of another artist? I mean Surrogate's:

Shouldn't you posted at least a link to the original one? Thanks and great tutorial.

Don't know if it's ruining anything, abuminalis, and thank you. We are always open to extra insights, links and addendums. Malanjo did refer to the original inspirational artist in his text. Thanks for the info.

Because the best way to learn, is to learn from the masters.
And like Paul said, is refered in the text the inspirational artists. (Always been since the first posted thread here in CGTalk - CGportfolio and Gallery).

Thanks and all the best,
-Malanjo

So, if i pick this work by Stahlberg and put the character older and wearing an armor, or maybe wearing a tail and some horns i can pass it as my own work? :surprised I think there is a diference between inspiration and copying...
