View Full Version : dog walk critiques
MissLulu 01-07-2009, 06:04 PM Hello everyone,
I would like some critiques on my dog's walk cycle please. I would like to rig it differently too, but I have yet to figure out how to use spline clusters in Maya... so any advice on that would also be appreciated.
Thanks!

Have the toes spread slightly on the contacts, will help add some weight

hi there,
it's looking nice, however i do have a few comments.
the front legs seem to slide a little when they touch the ground. i would like to see the paws moving more like the back ones, just to feel there's more weight going on there. they are quite "stiff" now, i'm sure you know what i mean :) - also watch out, there seem to be some snaps going on when they lift off the ground.
also the head could use more weight , if you would balance it more to the left and to the right, also up and down, it would make the whole neck-head area feel more organic and less rigid, my feeling now is that it's too rigid.
i would double check the pelvis movement as well. it's a bit too "bouncy" and the weight doesn't feel anymore. maybe a smoother motion would also help, it's bumpy now (or so i see it :) )
overall, it's good, it just need more tweaking to make it even better!
i hope this helps. :)
cheers,
Virgil

thanks! I'll see how many of these suggestions I'm able to incorporate.

the one thing that stands out the most to me is the lack of movement of the front paws.
There is no animation for left to right its only animated on the up and down.
add a bit of a sweep with the front leg. go away from body when the front leg starts to leave the ground. than have it sweep back into the old position for the landing. this will add lots of character! ...the shoulders are looking rather nice and this will make it look like the shoulder actually have an effect on the leg :) also agree with the above post as well.
good work, now keep going!
