View Full Version : Streching a Characters Neck (flashmx)
alikzam13 06-24-2003, 08:09 AM I am trying to create an effect where I have a giraffee with a short neck and I am going to strech the neck so that his neck becomes longer. I dont want to disort the graphic in any way. I tried just hiding extra neck w/ a graphic of the head but that didn't work too well. I was thinking mybe some sort of mask, but I think that would be difficult too.
I just want to go from a short neck, to a long neck. Thanx for any suggestions you have in advance. :wavey:

I'd try it with a mask first. (It's not that difficult).
But if the neck has some sort of pattern on it, it would look like the neck is growing rather than stretching.
So maybe you're better off using a seperate graphic symbol for the neck that you can stretch and one for the head that you can move accordingly.
Hope I could be of some help.
Cheers,
Marc

Hi,
You can do this by placing the portions of the neck you want to stretch out in different layers....keep each part in different layers for easy management...keep the neck on top of the body layer....the spots on top of this layer....and so on....
Thanks,

If at first you don't succeed, try try again.

I tried using seperate symbols at first but I ran into a bunch of troubles. I think I'll just redraw the character using different layers and symbols in mind this time and go about it that way. Thanx for the help! :)

Try to think of the giraffe (or any character for that matter) as a puppet. Have different symbols for the body parts and animate them individually just like you'd do with a puppet.
An alternative is, of course, frame by frame animation, which can really be fun, too.
