1. make sure your raytracing depth is high enough
2. mi_physical glass is an old shader. Mia_x is much better for physically accurate glass. set your transparency, your IOR and then check "use fresnel reflections". it also gives you a caustics/transparent shadows option in the material shader
3. finally make sure that "shadows" are set to "segmented" in the mr render globals. simple shadows won't trace transparency

additionally, you won't get good caustics or transparent shadows from just physical sun. you need a photon spotlight as well, to direct the photons. never emit photons from a sun light or distant source - they are completely wasted and slow down renders.

Simple shadows render transparency. Segmented shadows are necessary for rendering shadows from volumes such as particles and fluids.

Rufus did you have any luck!?! i too am having the same issue...
animating simple lambert from solid to transparent but still getting shadows?!
Using MR and FG, and yes my max depth is set to 10.
Still no luck!
any help greatly appreciated!

if you're using a simple lambert, check your Shadow Attenuation shader param under Raytrace Options

Thanks Galakgorr - after trawling through the squillians of threads here i came across that attribute - such a simple thing hidden away - most annoying!
cheers!
