Don't take this the wrong way but the reel comes across like a fresh student reel. If that is the case then it's not bad but I'd probably look a strengthening a lot of those animations. Like the guy stomping off could use some tweaking, you could probably also chuck in a normal walk cycle as well. Well let's see...
1) The first clip seems to go by really fast, maybe it could use some more holds or your poses could be stronger. It doesn't look like the guy even shot his gun, just flicked it to the side.
2) With the jumping monkey guy it would be nice to see him prep for the jump and land properly, it's damn fast.
3) The ninja does some crazy pelvic thrust thing which looks a little odd :)
4) Swimming girls pose seems wrong - I was swimming today and can't say I bend my knees when I swim upwards, your body stretches out like it's reaching for the surface, you know? Also her feet are moving but her legs don't? She'd be kicking.
5) Guys playing baseball - you cut so quickly we don't see the follow through of the batter.
There's a lot more I want to mention but I think after you read through those you might start to see odd things in other places. Biggest thing looks like thinking about your poses etc a bit more.
Your resume lists Pixar as an employer for some period in 2006 - what did you do there, if you don't mind me asking?

thanks for the ass kicking :D
yea i need lots of work, no doubt...
for first shot his arm feels the kickback if you watch it. His arm flys back, supposed to be a fast bang boom kinda shot. I agree though some of the posing is a little weak. I'm trying to get better :buttrock:
I'll work on adding more to that "monkey guy" which i think you mean is the high kick right?yea, i agree it is just the action, could be stronger if had a few seconds added on each side.
hehe that pelvic thrust is on purpose, supposed to be amusing...
yea i was planning on cutting that part of swimming out just because its not that great and the word "mediocrity" on it could send subliminal messages.
there is no follow through on the batter..the shot ends and cuts to a fielder..which i took out.
..if the "guy stomping off" is the walk cycle in there..that is supposed to be in an Art Babbit style. It suppose to be wierd tweaks that look impossible but still protray the motion and idea. its a "goofy" type walk.
I worked at Pixar as an intern. I animated a short film for a local 5th grade class. was called "the berry big misunderstanding". The people at Pixar visit the two local schools each year to teach them about visual storytelling. The students come up with a story, create the scenes/character and then come do the voice over at Pixar. I was assigned to animate their story and make it "come to life". Did animation in After Effects as well as the shot editing and adding fx. The short is than shown to the classes family and friends on the Pixar movie screen. It was a lot of fun and I have to say it was a very cool experience having something i worked on put on the same big screen as all those awesome movies. I really enjoyed the 3 months or so i was there. Maybe after more hard work I'll get back in there...
well whatever else you "didn't mention" I'd be happier if you did. I'm not here for pats on the back. I want to know every dang thing you have to say. and i really don't think the forum about my reel is a place to throw out questions about my past jobs. was kind of rude imo.

I watched it, just didn't notice it. It does go by awfully fast.
I suppose the thrust is funny but remember, your show reel is meant to show how awesome you are at animating, not for jokes that aren't as well animated as the rest of your stuff :p
Maybe go and add some time to the batter, everything in this reel is meant to be your absolute best work. If you've got stuff that's not quite there, don't use it. The timing and editing is just as important as the animation itself.
I'm familiar with the style of walk, but it comes across a bit weak is what I mean.
You did chuck it on your resume right next to your show reel so you left yourself open to the question. Was curious is all, sounds like a sweet experience.
Didn't mention the other stuff in particular cause there was still quite a bit to get through. Wait and see if anyone else brings up stuff, always good to have more sets of eyes have a look.

Great effort.
I agree on most of what's been said so far. It feels like to tried to show a lot of animation but some were really low quality in comparison to the others. Try to show only the best ones and those ones polish them even more. There are a lot of popping going on. Also the movements lack fluidity, you clearly see all your poses. Also more anticipation on the movements, characters look stiff. Try also making the poses stronger so they read better.
Well, hope this helps.
Cheers and best of luck in the future

I liked the stomping guy best. I laughed out loud... never seen a walk cycle like that in 3D.
Sweetbix and David-j are right. Most serious failing is the lack of fluidity, rigidness of the poses. Arcs, man!
