hi guys,
well, here is my third cg movie release. took one year to make. its revolved around the same matrix idea that characters are all "plugged-in" to some virtual simulation program only this time, we humans created this program. and so comes the video game characters all plugged into the "watrix". "the one" is found within this herd of video game characters and the action begins. .
after watching it a couple times I realized the plot wasn't very clearly brought across and I don't know why i still fail at storytelling clearly. also, I didn't like some of the sound effects works in the beginning. however, I like how the pipe fighting scene. it ended up pretty cool.
but enough about what I think, what do you guys think of it? anything you liked or didn't like? id like to know what goes throw peoples heads when they watch this flick.
thanks,
Dan

I really enjoyed it. That was a lot of work for one guy!
yes you are right about the sound. you need to make a friend or two who know sound and some better voices. really took a lot away from the whole thing. links voice was good though! :thumbsup:and soundtrack/guns too...hehe all the borrowed sound fx were ok.
Question about the guys they unlocked that were all blank. Was that supposed to be all the "extra lives" we gamers get being unlocked? if so i got it and i think thats a cool concept! if not then at least i took something from it and enjoyed it :p
There was one really bad walk that stuck out to me when "buff" mario is going through the door after gun fight. should cut it or redo the walk.
Its a fun concept and I'm sure you'll get some praise from gamers.

LOL. i love the "fan-boy-ness" of it!
lots of work for one person good stuff!
I agree with what nick said, the voices really took a lot away ...but links was good.
and that walk cycle......same :wip:.
I also really liked the first part when mario was normal, i thought the transition between marios world and links was a little quick.
In saying all the above, really good job for one person! and almost 20mins at that.
Keep up the work!

Lol, seeing all those Video Game characters carrying assault rifles and rocket launchers was funny to me, especially the great fairy from Hyrule. I think that was the great fairy.
You should be very proud of completing such a large project, I'm sure it was no easy feat. I think I would have enjoyed it more if it wasn't trying to be so serious. I know you were following the Matrix outline so that was the direction you decided to take it. There are a few spots that needed improvement, most have already been mentioned, but overall I'd say congratulations on a fine piece of work.
I look forward to seeing your next film.

yes you are right about the sound. you need to make a friend or two who know sound and some better voices.
yea thats a great advice. Even though sound effects are fun, its not for me haha. Although the problem is I don't think i'd find an amateur sound guy who'd like to work on a project this big for no money. it's hard to find people as nerdy as me these days haha....

thats a pretty cool idea but no, those "unlocked" characters were simply video game characters in the real world. they all looked the same(white low poly characters) because in the matrix movie, Neo and all the humans were all shaved and naked when they were first in the capsules. but when they are moved out their hair and skin color starts to form and their identity evolves. kinda same concept here. at first they look like white low poly characters but overtime they form to their true identities like Sonic, the great fairy, diddy kong...etc.
ps. any more questions are welcome, its actually fun answering them

Brilliant! Voices and animation wasn't super but the action, story/adaption, direction more than made up for it. Great entertainment!

There's a lot to comment on the way the modeling is done and especially also the rendering and then I didn't mention the crappy Youtube compression, even in the somewhat 'higher youtube' quality it was quite badly compressed.
But hell you did take me through the ride and enjoyed most of it. I think largely it depends on recognizing from other movies. Also one of the reasons why I like movies like scary movie and such.
Positive:
You know how to create an action sequence.
Good smart cutting, makes it even more intense.
Funny things in there!
Very cool how you put some of the 'original' things into your movie.
Negative:
Sometimes the cutting felt like 'crossing the line'. Sometimes I was like: Ok, where am I now. What is happening?
The character were recognisable and simple, yet could've been done some better (especially in shading). Overall in rendering it was simple, yet in the action sequence most of the time effective. That's actually a positive in a negative.
The photoshop like 'filter' that creates the 'edges' only picture is somewhat ugly. It is cool, but seemed to much like a 'filter' when you saw only the white edges on black.
Animation lacks quality in some points. The fast cuts and the compositing does help to 'overlook' this and get into the movie. But then I got sutck within the bad compression again. Too bad.
Overall: Fun to watch, might be somewhat long, cool production overall. Good job.

thanks for the advice. I like how you broke it up on the things I liked and the things I should of worked on more.

Awesome! But could have been cut down to about 4 minutes (the first fight scene and the gun battle in the middle). The rest was unfortunately nothing more than boring filler :(.
The action scenes were amazing. You know how to move to the camera and edit something to keep people interested. The explosions and fire were so obviously over the top I couldn't help but smile and say "Hell yeah" .
Things to work on:
Lighting - most of the scenes were blown out or overlit.
Animation - was sharp and not very fluid. But this did however work in the fight sequences.
Not biting off more than you can chew! As mentioned above - quality > quantity. Shorten your clips to under 3 minutes (or under 2 minutes for web audiences).
Overall a fun little series to watch. I thoughly enjoyed the fight scenes. They were up there with Kung Fu Panda in my opinion :D

btw did you guys notice how Mario completely ignores all of Link's questions even though it sounds like he's answering them?
