Kaydara is giving away 1-year license of MotionBuilder just for filling out the survey! I'm not sure if it's a crippled version or what, but hey, its free!

The MOTIONBUILDER™ Personal Edition for PC or OSX gives you a FULL production license for ONE year, giving you time to learn and work with this renowned 3D Character Animation application. There is no better Personal Edition in the industry. No watermarks and no functionality taken out of the product. You will truly enjoy this limited time offer to acquire a full license of MOTIONBUILDER™ for $100 USD.

:buttrock:

edit:
just installed my PE, but it forces me to request a license or quit.
so i wrote an email to kaydara, wondering if one's got to obtain a free license for it. hmmm... i will post an update on enlightenment!

but how about the 100$? is it obsolete or did i get something wrong...

ok, the website reads:
'win a FREE one-year MOTIONBUILDER Personal Edition license'

so i can download the application for free, but have to be the lucky winner to use it? strange...:thumbsdow

No, pretty much you fill out the survey form, and right after you click submit, you get the links for the download. Install it, and get emailed the license. Thats it. Its a good deal me thinks.

uhhh, maybe i was too impatient, waiting on kaydara's response...unfortunately i haven't received it yet, though i registered a few hours ago!

anyway, pretty nice deal!!!

If you wish to later purchase MB it will cost $200 in stead of $100 for people who have already bought the license for $100, i believe. MB has already been given away on mag cover cd's.

The message window says you should recieve your license within an hour.

60 minutes and counting.............

Be sure to check out the 3DBuzz VTM's.

Kadayara is going to start a revolution!!!!

But what about exporting complete keyframes to Blender? If that were possible I could use it for some cool realtime Blender character animation spots.

policarpo
06-24-2003, 06:48 PM
i don't think that will happen since Kaydara is looking to fit in the pipeline of studios using LightWave, Max, Maya, and Softimage (and eventual support for Electric Image and Cinema4D). Those are commercial grade products proven to be production workhorses.

Also...you could use it in the meantime to get really good at character animation. If you're interested in that. What you learn in MB can only help you as a character animator anyhow.

Kaydara is considering implementing FBX support for Blender. If you email fbx@kaydaya.com and let 'em know if you want it. They're talking with the blender people about doing it, also if they get enough responses they'll also talke that into consideration.:buttrock:

I installed and recieved my license pretty quick. Of course, after typing in the big long list of characters several times into the little box the program tells me it's invalid. So I request another license key. Same deal. So I request ANOTHER license key. Still the same thing. Damn thing will NOT let me register the program. I still can't use it, and several e-mails to Kaydaras support address have gone completely unanswered. I'd really love to use this application, but it looks like I won't be able to.

Bummed out.

wha?

why type it in...aren't you just Copying and Pasting it?

or were you being funny?

SovereignKnight
06-25-2003, 01:11 AM
No, not being funny. I'm extremely frustrated. The prompt box in the registration window won't let you copy/paste. You have to type it in manually.

Does anyone here know how I can get through to Kaydara? They won't answer their support address. :(

Copy & Paste worked fine for me. Just highlight the code in your email, Ctrl-C to copy, Click in the authorization window when you start Motionbuilder, Ctrl-V to paste. The program is good for a year! I'm downloading the VTM's from 3dbuzz right now. :applause:

I'm not really into character animation, but I downloaded this yesterday and got hooked. :applause: I have a feeling I'll buy a freelance license when this one runs out next year. I also downloaded the first three 3dbuzz VTM's on it, anyone who gets Motion Builder needs to download them right now. I was watching them for hours, it's an excellent crash course ( unfortunetly when I went to bed, I had trouble tuning out buzz and zacks voices swarming around in my head from VTM overload :surprised ).

I download it yesterday and started going thru the buzz VTM's. So far it seems very cool. I was wondering about the licensing though. Is it ok to use this copy at work for an animation we are doing or is it just for personal use only? Would we need to buy a copy if we are using it on projects?

greekdish
06-25-2003, 05:05 PM
From what I know...yes, its only for personal use. If your company is going to use it, they have to pay the full price for it.

FBMachine
06-25-2003, 06:44 PM
Users, on an individual basis, can freely use the software without any limitations for personal projects/productions, or as freelancers (work for hire). You cannot acquire and use this Personal Learning Edition for any work performed as an employee of a Corporation, as this would result in an illegal use of the Personal Learning Edition.

So you can use it for freelance work, but you can't use it at your company it seems.

For those that hate downloading can also locate June's issue of Digit Magazine (http://www.digitmag.co.uk/) which provides MB on disc.

FYI, July's issue will be including a full version World Builder as part of their 10 year anniversary! There was a CgT thread about this a while ago as well so sorry for the reiteration.

how large is the download? I have to cart everything home in zip disks so i have to plan for these things :).

FBMachine
06-25-2003, 09:41 PM
I think it was about 38mb, and the plugins for it were only a couple mb's. Also you can download the clipart cd, that's like 170mb, it's a whole lot of example stuff in case you want to just jump right in and tinker with it.
I did my first character animation ever today with it, Aragor creeping around... looked like he had to poo rather then looking like he was sneaking around though. :D I don't think character animation is for me, fun program though.

After downloading I have been waiting patiently for 2 days to receive my license via email, so have filled out the online form 2 more times and still received nothing. I am hanging to try it out as Digit mag still hasn't arrived in Australia....how long has everyone else been waiting till they got an email with the licence after downloading it? Do I have to say the magic word before I receive.....any advice?

Mikko
06-26-2003, 08:17 AM
As i've understood this you need to install it first, then wait for the key...

06-26-2003, 01:26 PM
Yea you need to install it then run it. It will ask you for the license number. Just hit the button to request the license number and they should send you one. It took me about 20 minutes to get a reply back from them.

Goon
06-26-2003, 02:47 PM
So it take it that you need to get the license on a machine with internet? No way to do it by email or anything?

policarpo
06-26-2003, 02:54 PM
you should be able to do it by email. during the registration process it will default to an error message that states that it will generate a text file, which in turn you submit as inline text or an attachment that you then send to Kaydara via email. :)

Rhs_CG
06-26-2003, 10:14 PM
If you install MotionBuilder on a machine without the internet, you can register it by recording the off-line computer's machine code (or something like that) and going to this (http://customers.kaydara.com/PERegistration/) page. Fill out the form and you will get an email back in less than an hour. Then copy and paste the email into a text file and bring it back to the off-line computer. From there start MotionBuilder and paste the license into the space provided. Vola!

Good find Rhs_CG!

Much quicker than going the e-mail route (1 day and counting) :p
Turnaround time = 1 minute 50 secs.

Sweet, I'm off to play...

also i have re downloaded the file twice and said data1.cab is corrupt...

06-27-2003, 06:02 PM
10 hours no reply yet and i filled out another survey on a different email no reply to that either....

The new file i downloaded still gives me the cab error

i was really hoping to try this program with the intents of buying the upgrade in the near future if i liked it, but so far im not impressed, as i cant even get it to install right

FBMachine
06-27-2003, 06:29 PM
Wait, you haven't installed it yet Mangled Poly? That explains why they haven't emailed you a key, the form to get the key doesn't come up until you run the program for the first time. Sorry I dunno what to tell you about the file corruption, it installed fine for me when I downloaded it.

well ok im a moron about the key but umm the program wont install :(

Adso
06-27-2003, 06:52 PM
Maybe try downloading the file to a fresh location?

Perhaps doing a "...delete files" in internet explorer to make sure the bad file is cleared out completely (You never know what's still poking around in the internet explorer & temp files directories!)
