hi guys,

as i was doing some preparations for a lesson, something weired happened and i don't know why. so heres the problem

i've created a simple nurbs sphere and a cylinder. then is translated the cylinder right up in Y (nothing else). after that i projected one of the isoparms of the cylinder onto the sphere (from top view)

so what happens is that maya creates me a curve with the degree of 1 on the sphere and this is not what i want (of course :) )

someone has a explanation for this ???

i know that i don't need to create a curve on the sphere if i want to create a surface between the sphere and cylinder because i could loft between two isoparms. it was just a test for something

when you projected a curve (or isoparm) you are infact only projecting a curve and not an object.
dont know if that realy helps, but perhaps you could post an image or somthing?

ok here's an image about whats happening

even if i duplicate the ipsoparm of the cylinder to a curve and then projecting the curve to the sphere it's still the same problem.

this isent a problem, this is what should happen.
what do you want it to do, im sure that there is a way round most problems

what should happen is that i get a clear round curve on the surface with the same degree like the cylinder. and not a curve with degree 1 and hard edges.

so normally the project tool is there to give me the same curve but on the surface, and not something different and with a degree of 1.

so believe me something is wrong with this. if you rotate the sphere just a little bit you'll get your right curve. but not if you project right on top.

Yeah, weird, just tried it and got the same thing. It's not really a problem though, the CV's are projected correctly so all you have to do is rebuild the projected curve as cubic, keeping the CV's intact. Should fix it.

Maybe it's that particular situation that causes it, with the objects being perfectly aligned in the XZ plane? Or just a bug? Don't know really... :hmm:

yep, got the same problem myself. Way round it is to rotate one of the objects, just a bit like 0.0001 and then it works..

must be a bug
